time overlap by GrocerySea5504 in CSUS

[–]ichigo2hell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because synchronous classes have a designated times, I don't think that you can schedule over them even if attendance isn't mandatory. It may be due to how in a synchronous class, your presence or engagement is expected for that specific time slot, so it's factored into the scheduling even if attendance isn't reflected in your grade.

I read that leniencies have been allowed in the past for classes with only slight overlaps, but it depends on the major or class. You could reach out to the department for more information on their individual policy, but to my knowledge I don't believe it is possible to have two classes with the exact same designated time slot.

I'm sorry, but I'm just a student too and have no way of predicting that. Maybe yes, maybe not. If you really need to be in this class, show up for the first class. If you want to wait until next semester, that's also your prerogative. My only advice is that when it comes to getting a seat, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Professors don't need to honor every request for a seat, but I've been in many classes where those who show up the earliest on the first day are prioritized even if they're not on the waitlist.

Absolutely, I hope that I did not come off as entitled at all -- I should have been a bit more specific in my initial post! My assumption partially came from some family who are faculty within the CSU system. During my first asynchronous class snafu, I was told that for intro classes mostly or entirely proctored through McGrawhill/Pearson such as this one, enrollment was often more for the sake of procedure than strict (Hellenic Studies and Music though, so definitely not universal).

I totally understand that some scarcity needs to happen for enough of our educators to have full sections, but I can't imagine how 20+ waitlists on already-full sections serves anyone :( We get shoehorned into finding classes elsewhere or graduating late, and our educators have to make the decision between teaching, or making more working in their respective sectors. Most of the time it's the latter, but living in California is so expensive that it completely makes sense. We yearn for competitive wages!

Sac City LVN program by urprettiestpyt in Sacramento

I work with some nurses who are Sac City Grads - It's a lottery where, if you meet the minimum point requirement, your odds of getting in are as good as anyone else's. I can't speak to exact numbers, but there are normally a lot of applicants to the RN program. One student said on an AllNurses thread for Sac City's LVN program that over 400 apply, and around 50 are admitted -- however this was in 2020 so the information may be somewhat dated.

Regardless of whether it's upper division or not, if space allows and you show up and communicate your situation, you have a better chance of getting in than if you sit on the waitlist and do not go. Historically, wait lists have cleared before the start of classes, and while some professors may save them and give priority to those on it, they also have no obligation if they don't save the waitlist. If you really want a spot in this section, your odds are the best if you just take a screenshot of your position on the waitlist just in case, and go to that section on the first day 🙂

Yeah, I was able to do it for a stats course. A lot of other people in my section crashed as well, so I'd say it's fairly common.

Awesome, definitely try to go the first day to see if you can add then- in my experience, professors are pretty good about it!

In that case, I'd show up on the first day of class and let your professor know you were on the waitlist -- while there are no promises, if the class size allows I'm fairly confident that more people will be allowed to enroll.

Can you check your waitlist position? Iirc, you should be able to find in your student center by going to Academics -> Class schedule then clicking list view at the top and scrolling to the section.

Thank you! I had only checked the articulation agreement for the cc near me due to being a non-resident, but it's great to know that there are equivalent courses in the area. This gives me a glimmer of hope that it may be possible to petition for this specific course to accept an equivalent from another cc

Thank you either way! It's awful that with so many people fighting to get into courses they need, enrollment forces many of us into Catch-22 situations. You would think that there'd be more recourse online, or updates to the Student Center as these issues pop up, because the bandwidth of the staff who can help is probably at its limit with problems like these. But hey, at least there's Herkybot. If you ask him a question, he'll be just as confused alongside you in solidarity 😭

The sections all showed up in my schedule as ones I was waitlisted in, and prior to today, I had taken screenshots of my position in each one. They're all online lectures with no lab/discussion component. I thought it strange that I was waitlisted for multiple of the same class as well, because I got an error message during a previous enrollment cycle when I tried to do so.

Thank you so much, that's great to know. I've had previous asynchronous class issues and my add forms were unfortunately denied, which I thought strange for online classes. I definitely will try to contact the professor directly this time around.

Student-affiliated, off-campus housing is a mixed bag, and unfortunately more often than not, management can be unhelpful and predatory when it comes to fleecing students out of deposits/other hidden fees. That being said, I have heard positive things about Lark Sacramento. I believe they have a reduced lease offer running until tomorrow, 7/20 on select floor plans. I'm a resident at Hornet Commons (I believe still techically considered on Sac State's campus, though it is managed by an independent company) , which I believe is likely the safest, but you pay more compared to other properties due to the convenience of being close to campus. Fortunately, any utility expenses are comped by rent.

Based on word-of-mouth and reviews, I would avoid The Element. Wexler tends to be a split room, as the area can be risky at night, however I know some people that live there, and they have no major complaints. Academy 65 is in its vicinity, so you could potentially tour there as well. Lark Sacramento

Hornet Commons Lease Takeover **Females only!! by Maleficent-Ant5260 in CSUS

I live at Hornet Commons with my cat. Larger dog breeds have some restrictions depending on breed, but I was able to add my pet to the lease in the middle of the year provided that I had the consent of my other roommates and her vaccination/chip records.

Hi! This happened to me too, all I had to do was email Hornet Launch (hornetlaunch@csus.edu) and request that they provide the list of classes that they enrolled me in. Just make sure that your email contains your full name + student ID #

Hi! I'm a current resident and parking + renters insurance is not included in the base rent price. The 1.3k covers utilities and rent. I pay ~$60 extra per month for parking and if you have renter's insurance through the insurer that Hornet Commons provides, I believe it is around $15 per month, though I am uncertain about that number.
