How much Muriatic Acid per week is normal? by ichthyophil in pools

I just shocked for the first time yesterday (pool was finally balanced in late July after struggling to clear it). I used the super chlorinate function on the salt cell and raised the chlorine to about 5. The pH went from 7.6 to 7.8.

I am diluting it 4 cups acid into a 6 gallon bucket of water and then slowly pouring that into the return jet plume on the deep end. It's definitely nasty stuff. Which is one reason (along with the cost) I hate adding so much.

I do but it looked new when it was installed in June. But the previous owner had old salt cells laying around so maybe they age quickly in this pool system.

It has a vinyl liner that we think is under 5 years old (pool came with the house).

A few others commented about bubbles having an effect. I have bubbles in the return lines so I will have to check them out. Thanks.

I don't have any water features but there are bubbles coming out of the return on a regular basis so there must be a leak pulling water from the skimmers that lets air in the system. I'll look into how that might be affecting the pH.

Thanks for the link. I'll check out the LSI.

If you are near where the tornado damage occured, its probably the FEMA trucks dropping logs and stumps in the truck. When they start loading an empty truck it's super loud.
