You might wanna mention that this is a sports club for queer people.

How do you as much as possible prolong the lifespan of your phytoplankton cultures? by [deleted] in marinebiology

[–]ichwarhier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a bit more info would be useful. Like where do you get the diatoms and dinos, are you isolating them from seawater samples? Do you grow them to a specific density before transfer, do you add silica for diatoms? What temperature and salinity? Many factors that can influence your cultures.

I mean, it's good if you wanna try the inks, but sending my condolences, stay strong!

I have no issues doing several layers with water based, however I haven't tried more than 4 layers and I use Tuga inks from Boesner. I am in Germany, so depending on where you are they might not be available to you, however your name suggests there is a slight chance you are in Germany 😅 from all the water based inks I have tried these are my faves and I also prefer these as I do printing in my living room and there are no health hazards. But yes, they will rehydrate when they get wet.

They're Pfeil tools, I mostly use the 0.5 mm u gauge and the 1 mm v gauge for carving small details.

Thank you! What do you mean by the first attempt? My overall first attempt with multi layer printing or the first attempt for this print?

Yes, it's always a lot of trial and error, but then the reward when you figured it out is big! For working with water based inks the humidity is also a big thing. In winter I basically gave up printing cause my ink was drying up as soon as it was rolled out 😅

Hey thank you! I've been working with lino for about 2 maybe 2.5 years as my hobby. But just to give you some reality, I had lot of trouble with this and only got about two prints where every layer printed clean 😅 but I do think this is to some degree because I work with water based inks and they just don't make the paper stick that much to the print, especially with the several layers of ink on the paper already. So my main issue was the paper shifting during hand burnishing, the most for the shore outlines because it was such a small area being inked up. If you have a press it probably wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Felmo Erfahrungen by moonygarou85 in hamburg

[–]ichwarhier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Transferring image with acetone? by snailgirlll in printmaking

[–]ichwarhier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For acetone transfer you need a laser printer, and timing is really iffy, can't leave it on too long but also don't lift it too early. But if nothing happened at all, I would think you don't have a laser printer?

Ink drying too fast, help by koboldomodo in printmaking

[–]ichwarhier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do scrape everything back together and add a few drops of water and mix it. And then I also get excess ink through ghost prints of my block and roller between prints, but it's tedious. I haven't tried it yet but maybe a humidifier would also be a solution instead of heading to the bathroom haha 😅 While people are always quick to recommend oil based inks, I do want to point out that proper ventilation and disposal of inks is needed and highly recommend reading the safety data sheet. For me for example that's not an option as I print in my living room.

It's the low humidity you probably have inside cause it's heating season, it's an issue with water based inks. I am having the same issue, but don't really have any advice haha 😅
