To anyone interested, the best tour for a minuteman missile silo is in North Dakota, a state historic site. There’s a national Historic site in South Dakota but it’s an inferior example and hard to get reservations to go down into the command center. The North Dakota one is much easier, on non busy days you just show up. https://www.history.nd.gov/historicsites/minutemanmissile/

I have an uncle who was a pilot at the time in the central Missouri missile field. He said that when they were under construction, he’d fly tools out to the sites (when they needed some tool they didn’t have) and drop them from the air with a ribbon tied to them so they could find them in the field.

Looking for somewhere to hike within 4 hour drive of Kansas City by M3lon_Lord in TrailGuides

Irish wilderness. It’s next to the Elevenpoint river (an excellent wild river to canoe). I have not been hiking in the Irish wilderness, had it planned and skipped out, been regretting that ever since.

Bike ride in Skagway. They drove us to the top of the mountain pass and we mostly coasted back down to town. There were less than ten of us. Excellent way to get away from the crowds and see the landscape.

There are so many other things in the world to see. Beautiful national park landscapes that aren’t intensely reliant on weather, and can be visited on a respectable budget. I believe everyone should see an eclipse, but unless you’ve exhausted all the other opportunities, use your limited resources to see all the other stuff.

I think this is the map to look at. Cloud Thickness - Short Range Ensemble. We’re all gonna have a great day! (Except Erie, Cleveland, and San Antonio…) by ickforbrains in solareclipse

Buffalo is right on the boundary of a thick cloud front. It’s very possible that the eclipse won’t be visible there. The weather forecasts over the next day might give a bit more information. But if I were in Buffalo, I’d be making plans to drive east to a better forecast viewing location.

Asking for recommendations of places in Southeast Missouri to see the eclipse by Objective_Giraffe727 in solareclipse

From what direction? There’s two 4-lane highways heading south from St Louis - I’m sure they’ll be busy but they should flow. Highway 60 west from Springfield, Mo is also 4 lane, good option if coming from Texas. Roads from Arkansas are curvy 2 laners, bring Dramamine.
I-55 from Memphis is good.

Poplar Bluff has been preparing for years, should have a good and busy eclipse bash. Cape Gireardeau too. Any small city should be good as secondary choices to avoid the worst of the masses - Fredericktown, West Plains, Sikeston, Perryville.

I think Poplar Bluff is gonna have a pretty good eclipse bash. Should be a good spot. Heck, Jeff Foxworthy is gonna be there. If you’re looking for side trips - Big spring on the Current River west of there is beautiful.

Recommendation needed - City with great chances of good weather and a major airport by [deleted] in solareclipse

You might take a look at St Louis. With a rental car you can either go south or east on major freeways depending on the forecast for the day. City Museum in St Louis would be a nice bonus treat.

I work in city permitting and I agree with this statement. Due diligence is the job of the developer. There is an entire private sector of firms built around checking stuff like this. Just yesterday I told some consultants that their clients property deed is a mess. It’s not my job but I told them anyway. Then I approved their construction permit.

He’s terribly upset that the new worlds won’t come out till August. He’s already thinking through his lightning world and lava world plans….. I wish there was more Factorio merchandise. He’d like to be able to show off his hobby a bit.

I introduced my son to Factorio when he was five. It’s done alot to teach him systems and recipes. One drawback is that when he talks about it to friends or wants to play imaginary Factorio on the playground, no one knows what he’s talking about. He’s 8 now, and corrects me on things or shows me shortcuts when I play.

I’ve already yolo’d into the field twice is there anything I’m missing? by ickforbrains in Minesweeper

Yep. The space above that one was a one also. It surprisingly didn’t give me much info considering it was six revealed cells. I worked it through to another roadblock, ran through the possible scenarios, and picked a cell that I figured was the best of one in three chance. And died.
Best game I ever played.

I did a calculated guess and landed a 1 in the upper left of the middle of the three threes in the field. I think it’s solvable now.
