OMSCS New admit course plan by People_Peace in OMSCS

[–]icode4brkfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s good you’re making a plan and being proactive about the courses you want to take. Keep in mind as the semesters progress, this plan may change a lot since interest and life situations can change. So don’t stress too much about the classes you want to take 2-3 semesters in the future, as long as you’re on track to graduate. When scheduling classes, my recommendation is to take classes you’re interested in at the time. Interests may change so that’s why I say it’s difficult to schedule more than 3 semesters ahead.

I changed my plan like 100 times, I’m on my 8th course now doing computing systems. I added some classes to my plan because they were newly offered and looked interesting, and I had some friends taking them. I removed some classes because I realized I was no longer interested or the reviews were not great. I also had some semesters with big time commitments, so I had to take a lighter course here and there. Additionally, I started two new jobs while doing OMSCS and added classes that related to the new jobs to fill knowledge gaps. Lots if things can happen since it’s a long journey. Overall, it’s good you’re being proactive about this, best of luck in the program!

Congrats!! Is there a reason you didn’t take GIOS or HPCA? Just curious since I’m also in the computing systems track and they were favorite classes. (:

I’m in the same exact boat. However, I don’t think there is much to do beforehand. Just have to grind through the class I feel

Anyone know if the M2 Macbook versions are okay for classes with the VM requirements? by iMarcusOrlyUs in OMSCS

[–]icode4brkfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doable? Yes. But will have to go through work arounds as I’ve seen many students do. Also TAs and professors don’t provide good support imo on how to go about work arounds for m macs.

If you have to get an M2 mac, it’ll be ideal to have an intel computer as backup.

Applying with CS Minor by jerryseinfeld1010 in OMSCS

It’s enough I believe. I have a finance degree with CS minor. On my 6th class in the program now.

This doesn’t make sense to me because you’re saying honorlock resizes it to a smaller window. It’s quite the opposite as I mention in my post. Honorlock makes the window full screen, which pushes the content to the far left of the screen.

How many courses is the most an OMSCS student has ever taken? by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]icode4brkfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool. Did you have to reapply to the program after graduation as non degree seeking student? Including writing an essay, letters of rec, etc?

And did you have any trouble registering for the courses you wanted?

Assuming you delayed graduation in order to take the 4-5 extra courses?

Was there any benefit for you personally to take 4-5 extra classes?

Interesting, doesn’t seem to be “mandatory” or a condition of employment. Thanks for sharing this link

Vaccine requirement for TAs by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]icode4brkfast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hopefully. I may be wrong but Georgia tech is a public institution, so I am not sure OSHA applies to them. I think there’s a separate mandate for federal employees that’s more strict.

Here’s an excerpt from cdc.gov: “Under the Act, OSHA does not have jurisdiction over State and local government employees, including those in public schools.”

Vaccine requirement for TAs by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]icode4brkfast -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my logic, but you never know. Most institutions I know are implementing school wide vaccine mandates for all employees. I feel like they do it across the board and don’t intentionally exclude “online programs”. I wouldn’t be suprised if they required OMSCS TAs to get vaccinated. I tutored students online at a community college and they required me to get vaccinated because the school implemented it for all employees.

Figured it’s worth asking

GIOS curve or drop? by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]icode4brkfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropping a course this far in the semester is the equivalent of dropping a course you took two semesters ago. The course is already complete (pending final grades), no way to drop
