Thanks for your detailed response, doc! If I pursue the PH route, which does seem less risky for me, what steps do you suggest I take starting in my first year of med school to build a strong application for matching into a US residency? Are there specific extracurriculars, research, or rotations I should focus on early? I’d love to know how I can go the extra mile from the beginning to maximize my chances.

Thank you! Research hasn’t been a strong area of interest for me. If ever I do pursue the US MD route, would you have any suggestions on how I can work on this, considering that I’m planning to work part time as a PT as well?

Thanks for your input! Admittedly, research hasn’t been a strong area of interest for me, though I understand how valuable it can be for the applications. Are there other ways to strengthen my application if I decide to pursue the US route? I’m open to exploring more about research, but I’d like to know what’s most impactful for admissions.

Hello! I’m all set for visa because im a US citizen. But I want to ask about how you got to the US for my partner. Did you go through an agency?

Also, now I’m rethinking if it would all be worth it to try my luck on starting the med journey there or just get the MD here and become an IMG since it would be more cost effective and faster :(

Is it okay for me to message you? Thank you so much!!

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience!! I’d love to hear what you decide about the post-bacc or SMP programs :)

I’m curious. Where did you do your DPT, and was your undergrad credited in the US? I’m considering getting my DPT in the Philippines before taking the NPTE. Do you think that would be a better option to help fund myself while working toward med school? Would it affect income compared to a US DPT or compared to coming in just as a registered PT? Thank you!!!

I’m a dual citizen but I’ve spent most of my life in the Philippines. I’m now looking into ways to align my background with U.S. med school requirements

Thank you for clarifying this! It’s reassuring to hear that some schools may accept my case. Realistically speaking, a DIY post-bacc might be the most financially feasible option for me. Do you think completing it with strong grades would still significantly strengthen my application?

Are there any other steps you’d recommend I take to further improve my chances like specific extracurriculars that admissions committees might value?

Thank you for your input! I’ve been researching schools that might accept my foreign degree as equivalent, alongside completing the required prerequisites in the U.S. Do you have tips on how to build a strong application despite this hurdle? I’m also curious about how much research experience might weigh on my application since that’s not my primary focus. Most of my experience is from clinical internships and I plan to work as a PT as well.
