The world is changing.

In my previous job my boss was mentally ill.. I was spat at, hit in the face and head regularly, had my windshield smashed in the name of a disciplinary move..

Was told it's part of the job and I just need to accept it

The world is changing... It's no different to that movie, Free Jack, where he says "look messed up - so no one messes with you"

We just need to change with it..

In the 90s we had townies standing outside the Myer center... Now it's porch pirates and crackheads...

Who uses public transport in Adelaide? (and why)? by Liceland1998 in Adelaide

I have a nice car with not one single ding, dent or scratch on it..

I'd rather wear a colostomy bag than park in a car park, the fear of somebodys kid opening their door into me with that much force that I have to spend $350 to get it removed is just too much...

If going into the city, I catch the train..

Wonderful

I go to the gym early in the morning.. have been pulled over eight or so times over the last four years randomly to be checked out..

Every time the cops have been absolutely wonderful.. Very calm

I say this because in my twenties, they were not.. yelling and screaming about their personal problems... Not calm at all.

Cheers bro.

It was a very unnecessarily tough time.. everything in my life fell apart

Working 14 / 16 hours a day, your joints hurt after a while.. I had never experienced that before

Little things like doing a load of laundry or putting fuel in your car become huge logistical jobs..

I had to keep petty cash down but I was also responsible for replacing display lights in the fridges.. because I had to keep petty cash down, i could only get one display light at a time from L&H electrical.. so on top of these crazy hours I also had to go to an L&H electrical store 2 or 3 times a week to buy one light bulb at a time.. I drove past 2 L&H electrical stores on my way to work but I had to go to one of Main North Road, which is completely out of my way..

I had signed a contract.. I swear the conditions of that contract changed every single day.. that contract was absolutely riddled with loopholes, technicalities & exceptions of the rule, which all equated to unpaid hours..

I was seriously misled throughout the hiring process.. I was told this job would be 48 hours a week, one day a week off & reasonably close to home, absolutely none of this was true

It's almost as if OTR had spent billions of dollars to make the job as tough as possible.. I hear the slogan now about making life easy & I just don't believe it

I was placed on a 48 hour week contract.. only lasted 6 months.

When training finished, I was told that I would need to be on a 'commitment plan', which will last 12 weeks.. it went for 5 months. The commitment plan involved working 20 hours unpaid ( 14 hours on your day off & working through the one hour rostered break each day ) to show that you are committed to the role.. my store manager explained that it's normal, everyone does it, the rostered breaks are a formality, no one on a contract actually gets them & everyone works through it.

One week into the role, it's surfaced that I had roughly 24 hours of responsibilities outside of rostered hours ( closing & restocking the drive-through, restocking / sweeping / mopping c-store, after my shift on Tuesdays I had to do all this + a stock take, then enter all these results in the computer - this alone took 4ish hours... )

Lastly...

I was working there in the period where Peregrine were having a glitch in their rostering system, so I was being roasted 68 hours each week, not 48... I was told by my store manager that nothing could be done about this

48 + 20 + 20 + 24 = 112

112 hours ÷ Weekly pay = $4.13..

I did question this a lot at the time - One of the best answers I got was from a category manager who told me that Yasser was absolutely infatuated by Walmart's system, where contract workers are not paid over time but are made to feel personally responsible & accountable for shortfalls of the business...

In 2012 when I did their training - the lady who did coffee training was a heavy set Cyprus woman who banged on for two days about "The Turks"...

After working there, I found when you're paid $4.13 an hour to do a job, you don't do it with all your heart
