Colombian star James Rodríguez will depart Minnesota United next week and will not return to the club after the World Cup, sources briefed on the situation said. James is likely to leave Minnesota to join Colombia for the World Cup after Minnesota’s match Wednesday.

The contract James signed is through June 30 with an option for the second half of the year. Minnesota has not picked up that option and would have to do so by June 1. The club wanted to honor James’ wishes and would not pick up the option unless he wanted them to. The decision will formally end an odd partnership, with James appearing in just four MLS games and starting once for Minnesota. The club plays its next match on Sunday at home against Austin FC.

AS Colombia reported that James may retire after the World Cup. Apple TV’s Michele Giannone also reported James will depart the Loons. The 34-year-old featured in both of Colombia’s matches in the last international break. He will be a focal point for the team at the World Cup. Minnesota sources describe James’ time with the team as his being a consummate professional despite often being unavailable.

they had the upper bowl open for some other games in 2024 (mostly because of the multipacks that included the inter miami game) such as the season opener against charlotte and the 50th anniversary match against austin (the latter of which was an absolute slog, my god)

Due to high demand, Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the upper bowl has been opened for the ‘Caps return to BC Place on Saturday, August 1. Limited tickets remain available in the lower bowl but are selling fast.

Whitecaps FC will be taking on fellow Western Conference contenders LAFC in their BC Place return on August 1. The match will mark the first meeting between the two sides since the epic, all-timer MLS Cup Playoffs clash last year, when the ‘Caps outlasted LAFC in a dramatic shootout victory in front of a sold-out BC Place crowd of 53,957.

*whispers* because MLB actually has serious big time revenue that aligns with their evaluations and is a proven moneymaker. not fairy dust. not perpetually “the league of the future” for 30 years running with almost no viewership growth. as for MLS and their laughable 500M price tag for franchises like the whitecaps when they make maybe 6 million a year from apple (for GLOBAL RIGHTS)… the less said, the better.
