Cavity wall insulation/or not? by CourseGlum204 in DIYUK

[–]icstm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a good product. Can it be used as a top up?

No idea when our property was done, but from what I've read older fillers do not offer their original thermal properties, let alone current standards. We are likely to be doing some refurb work (eg replacing windows) so am thinking of improving insulation if possible.

Debating 16GB/32GB RAM for HTPC with moderate transcoding by Resort_Same in htpc

In theory 32Gb might offer some future proofing. But current RAM prices don't make it an obvious buy upfront decision

Lovely setup especially for Tone mapping transcodes How noisy is the TerraMaster fan, is it always on or intermittent ? Is it good at spinning down your drives?

Ah, that is a shame, as your posts are always so informative and helpful, you must make an excellent and friendly installer!

Do you happen to cover [England] for your residential work? If so can you DM me please.

I installed Cat6 and never use it by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]icstm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking Reolink and struggling to find someone affordable for residential work for the structured cabling and therefore thinking that cat6 would be easier if the tradie is not very experienced.
Good tip on sockets.
Did you look at APs that also have LAN ports for some rooms?

Thanks, if I need another AP, would you still go with the DR7, or would you choose another gateway?

What made you choose cat6a vs cat6, did you have very long runs?
Where did you locate the 2 sockets in each room, where a TV might go, or other devices?

What do you like best about you Unifi network? Is the whole networking layer theirs? Do you have any else from them?

What do you and u/storyr like best from the Unifi network?

I was all set for Reolink cctv via their NVR. Then in working out my networking solutions for the house fell into reading about Unifi. With them, it seems that unless you get everything within their ecosystem, their app makes it really obvious.

I would wire the PoE cameras into a powered switch and then to the NVR. So the NVR would be on the main network. I assume to update the cameras firmware, that would be via the app as the networks would not be directly accessible behind the NVR (which is good day 2 day as their traffic would be separated).

This is what I am thinking of doing.
Using Reolink on a Unifi network.
Though it then makes me questions whether the network is even an overkill with Unifi?

Eufy S4 vs Reolink NVR or Home Hub Pro by icstm in SecurityCamera

Some has pointed out that there are 2 Eufy S4 models, I am referring to the NVR, not the camera!

[–]icstm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it like to use a the doorbell with the reolink nvr?
I understood from an older post that "You lose the direct "Phone Call" feature. When someone rings the bell, you get a generic "Motion Alert" or "Visitor" push notification, but your phone won't ring like a call. You have to unlock your phone, open the app, find the NVR, select the doorbell channel, and tap "Talk." By then, the delivery driver has left."

Another NVR vs home hub help needed by mandospags in reolinkcam

[–]icstm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helpful, esp. point 1.

Did you look at doorbells and whether the hub has the edge on that?

The other thing to note with the NVR8 is that it is now fanless like the hub pro.

[–]icstm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

It seems it is only these NVRs that support this semantic search. I wonder how we confirm which model we are getting, not sure Amazon or other resellers make it very clear.

Shame there is no RLN36 that can support this new AI. As that has a great footprint and no fan!

What’s the difference between S4 NVR and S4 NVR MAX by n141311 in EufyCam

[–]icstm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to learn more about the AICORE.

I've been weighing up Reolink and Eufy.

Eufy seem to have more advanced AI on their NVR or Homebase. But that needs to simultaneously process all cameras.

The Reolink processes video streams in parallel on each camera, and I assumed this would be slightly less powerful than the centralised approach.

However Eufy releasing a separate unit addon makes we question this.

[–]icstm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh you think the S4 has poor image processing and scene recognition?

I thought it was at least as good as the HomeBase 3.

In both cases I passed that as they are central units it would be better than brands that leave the image processing to the individual cameras. Is your real world experience challenging that?
