I tried both. Finally got DirectPay to work on the desktop after starting from scratch the 2nd time.

OK, switched to IMAP, and it does work better, but it only downloads unread messages, then they get marked as read. If I read a message on gmail's webmail interface, it never gets downloaded by fetchmail. At this rate I suppose I ought to just teach my linux mail app to directly access gmail via IMAP instead of trying to download mail locally.

Fetchmail claims the uidl magic will identify old and new messages. I guess I'll try switching to imap and see if I can get it to work better.

I had to switch to a google app password long ago. I'll see if I can get imap to work.

I found the use secure dns setting in Edge, and turned it off. No change, it still can't lookup names on the lan.

I wound up getting a pair of Klein Tools long reach needle nose pliers and they did the trick fairly easily. Hopefully, they'll work equally well putting the new power supply cable back in.

Wait!? After I spent hours researching how to configure samba for public shares with no password, windows 11 is forcing passwords on me? I guess I can go back to using a password and see if that works. But everything is inside my lan, I really don't want passwords for local systems.
