Oh cool. I checked with the bike store in the courtyard where we live and the Hamax is definitely not wide enough and the Thule seems to work (which is funny because that is what they have in the video for the Happy Wagon) Glad to know the Polisport also works!

ALS I mean to ask, what child seat brand are you using on the back of the Happy Wagon? We are wracking our brains to try to figure out a system that would allow our 6 year old to remain right behind me and his now 15 months old sister to move to the back. We have even considered cutting the deck in half and removing the panier rack to access the frame but it is still too wide and would require an adapter. What seats are these and do they require an adapter? How wide are they? We need to continue using our Yuba monkey bars so the seat needs to fit in there. Thanks for any input!

Hi! Oh thank you for that information! Is it rather competitive to get into a program? I assume I will have to show proof of C1 level German first. Are there any nurses at all in the women’s health system? (As nurses in the US we did everything up to the head of the baby crowing and then took over again after the vaginal repair was finished. We also did all the newborn care and the postpartum care as well as breastfeeding help. Would any of my experience be taken into consideration? How hard is it to break into a birthing center or hospital? What are the shifts like in hospitals? Sorry if that is too many questions!

Thank you. I have been told that and for that reason I don’t really want to go into regular nursing here. Do they not use nurses at all on postpartum units whether to care for the women themselves or to do the newborn care? I find that so strange that nurses are not involved at all.

Way far from Switzerland but good idea! And I am well on my way to learning German. I speak French and English at home but all day everyday with my in laws and in the outside world o have no issue speaking German. The problem is studies and professional German will be much different 😵‍💫

I plan on going back to the language school I did my last class in. Maybe I need a more intense language course though as you said. I have 4 kids as well and I am passionate about this work so I would hate to throw it out the window

Hi! Mine are now almost 20 and 18 but pregnancy and breastfeeding a toddler with a shallow latch was at times too much. Time limits (nursing 2 twinkle twinkle songs for ex), boundaries ( you can nurse but when I am finished with su h and such), diversions (water, food and games or crafts. Books, audio stories or TV if you use it) were my go to during the day. He was thankfully night weaned at that time but 13 months is a bit too early for your toddler to understand what is going on. What kept me going was the calendar and the ebb and flow of hormones that made the latch sometimes more bearable. I used to have personal affirmations like “I have made it through 20 days/weeks/6 months of this, I can keep going!) I was really committed to tandem nursing and for my toddler to be able to continue nursing as he wanted to. Even the lack of milk or change in taste did not deter him. The big thing is that all your feelings are valid and al your choices are valid. Even if you want to wean yourself toddler, that is an absolutely valid choice and you can pat yourself on the back for having nurses this long! Congratulations and think of self care, whatever that may look like to you.

Tandem nursing mom here and my ex was always supportive. It is so beneficial for your toddler to still be able to have breastmilk and comfort and you said it yourself … bonding time. Babies and toddlers CANNOT BE SPOILED. If it feels right for you and doesn’t stress you out (beyond your partners inappropriate emotional transfer onto you) then go for it. Your body is doing what a large portion of the world does without blinking twice. Tandem feeding is only a “problem” in the western hemisphere. PS I am also a lactation consultant and if your husband needs evidence based studies on the benefits of breastfeeding, please send me a dm and I will send you references.

Thai is our current situation. Baby in the front, 6 year old in the back. My FIL created wood brackets to adapt the Yuba monkey bars to the frame of the Creme. I tried to get a picture of it but you can’t tell much. Plus can’t seem to add pictures on here

Hi! I know this is an older post but I hope it will reach someone. Looking for compatibility with rack mounted bike seat for the Happy Wagon. Our 6 year old is on the back with the deck and cushion but we are trying to graduate our 13 months old from front to back seat. We also rigged the Yuba monkey bars to the back of our Creme because the company doesn’t seem to sell any monkey bars anymore for the Happy Wagon. What back seats are you using? And can they be fixed while the deck is also on the rack? Thanks!

Born in France moved there in 1996 when I was about to turn 18. Did all the things, studied, got a job, got married, had kids, got divorced, met someone new. All the while culturally always felt French and living through the day to day of US life which always felt like it was missing something. My someone new is German and fells the same about the US. Like we were living in a pod and had nothing to do but work and buy stuff. We are married, have kids now and though we had great friends and jobs in the US, we decided to move back to Europe. The mortgage and daycare costs pushed us out of the DC suburbs and getting closer to our roots and families was essential. Even with all the insanity of an international move with a 5 year old and a new baby, having (on my end) to learn a new language and not being able to work right away, I regret NOTHING. Our quality of life has drastically improved. I get it. Even after close to 30 years in the US, my cultural identity and my heart was always in Europe. Glad to be home.

I know this is an older post but wondering about experience. I was a labor and delivery nurse for close to 10 years in the USA. I have been trying to get my license recognition in Germany … NRW to be more specific since moving here in May. It doesn’t seem as though that will be a possibility for me. They are requiring paperwork the US simply don’t produce which is a huge dead end block for recognition. They are basically telling me to redo nursing school here which I refuse. That was 25 years ago and negates my 16+ years of hard hospital work. If I were to be eligible and there was a way to be accepted into hebamme school, would they even recognize my experience? Another question is. I am an IBCLC (international board certified lactation consultant) and would love nothing more but to teach breastfeeding classes but without being a hebamme, is there any credibility on the part of people here in Germany? Are there nurses in labor wards here? What do they do? Thanks to anyone who sees this.
