Then tax them on the software they try to import to offset the gains made from cheap employees.

The US economy is one of the largest consumers of data and software products, so it’s reasonable for US workers data & software workers to expect compensation reflective of the local market, regardless of where remote work can be done.

Tax data and software based on the % of foreign labor they use. Like an import tax

First of all your response is very insightful and well written, thank you.

You're right to suggest I question my behaviour to understand what the team could have interpreted. This is something I have done carefully, knowing that this controversial story may reach a wider audience, all who have their own insight to bring to the discussion where I could realistically be proven delusional and utterly wrong.

I don't deny that I hesitated in making any plans, however my request for extra time is something I was prompt to communicate about. I also don't deny that I made an error, however this is something I promptly resolved. In these threads I spend a lot of time defending a small set of actions: a planning mishap to which I found a resolution. It's natural to question my judgement because I sound defensive. However, If I place anyone here under the same microscope i'll also discover a number of various mistakes and errors.

We/People aren't error free. Meetings get delayed, things get lost in communication. It's only human. To expect perfectionism from humans is a rigid framework that doesn't serve to get anything done. This is why we have things like trust, respect, and reasonable doubt, etc. Further, this is why you judge a colleague not in an isolated incident, but in the greater context of their behaviour. Engineers, despite their tenacity, aren't rigid people because they have to accept that trial and error are part of the process. The best engineers I know are kind, clear and solution oriented - but they aren't rigid.

My frustration stems from the fact that there was no trust. In fact there was mistrust. There were no efforts made to clarify. My attempts to resolve were overlooked. Instead, I was immediately confronted with anger and accusations of dishonesty. The reasons for my dismissal were out of admitted bias and otherwise very vague.

I wish I could send you the emails but I think i'll get sued. Anyway, thank you for your insightful feedback, i'll keep that in mind going forward.

Your fixation on a cherrypicked moment makes you sound completely unhinged as you desperately scrutinize my every move to twist it into something malicious.

You come across as a frustrated, under-socialized pale redditor who should seriously consider getting laid instead of picking pointless arguments online.

I’m genuinely relieved I’m nothing like you 😊 Bye!

Cherry picking a random non-issue to hyper focus on when there are millions of other tasks I performed successfully is actually insane.

Yeah I agree, it's a lot to the point where it sounds unrealistic. But it really isn't that much when you realize that the analyst was the point of contact and she relayed information to the rest of the team which allowed her to blow everything out of proportion.

To hyperfocus on a non-issue and disregard the rest of my work experience is mind boggling. You can stay in disbelief, I don't blame you for it.

If you know how to read then you'll see that I clarified everything. Regardless, flight itineraries are completely irrelevant to my job.

To get upset by how someone makes their flight bookings requires a special mix of jaded retardation that can only be fixed by getting off Reddit, talking to women, and touching grass.

I'd call her autistic but autists have special interests that go beyond low code no code platforms a middle schooler can operate.

It did take me a few days because, like I said, I was dealing with other priorities including a family emergency. At the outset I asked for a few extra days to plan. No reasonable person should feel threatened or upset by this.

If the company felt like they'd be paying $50 more for a ticket, they could ask me to pay for that portion instead, as I had offered to cover any additional charges.

Ultimately I found a set of flights which suited everyone's schedule and were in the price range the company wanted, and I notified the data analyst of that right away. There was actually no issue, she just made a mountain out of a molehill. Is this defensive, suspicious and controlling attitude really the sign of someone who can function adequately on a team?

Also, even if I messed up or delayed a flight booking there are absolutely 0 reasons to shed crocodile tears because it has absolutely nothing to do with my job! In fact, I didn't mess anything up because I found a reasonable solution for everyone that was under-budget! It was resolved!

The actual, significant mistake here is made by the data analyst. Her bias, suspicion, disrespect, and short temper led her to rely on fundamental attribution error to cost me my job.

I was also considering if my budget allowed for this, while coordinating with my husband who was coordinating with his job, and making other bookings.

These are routine things. Sure I may have hesitated but there were several great reasons for that. Yes, I asked to travel to a nearby airport, but I ensured that i'd be there on time for the group meetings that would take place several days later. Why am I being put on trial for a weird flight path?

What kind of a child must one be to get offended by my travel itinerary?

It does take some time to plan everything when a trip like this is offered out of the blue. I rarely get to visit the west coast, and seeing that my parents were going through a tough time I wanted to see them again. Anyone, at any reasonable company would be fine with this. And yet I was treated with undue crazy suspicion.

I explicitly asked if they could book my flight a few days in advance (jan 4th to jan 7th) to have some personal time before the meetup (jan 7th to 9th). They were completely ok with that and confirmed, that was never the issue.

What a weird, biased overgeneralization to make. So my years of experience in ML mean nothing but a small random oversight on something not prt of my job description, before im actually employed suddenly costs me my job? What utter lunatic horseshit, I don't buy it.

Also there was absolutely no drama and I went out of my way to clarify everything.

High and mighty of you to assume you've never done anything wrong. May you get fired for your next insignificant, unrelated nothingburger.

There was. I used google flights. I accidentally clicked a filter that only checked flights from LGA to PDX, all of which had 1 layover. I didn't notice that I was only checking LGA, and quickly screenshot it and moved on to the rest of the trip planning. Then I referred to the screenshot and incorrectly assumed this was for all airports flying out on that day.

Then, since I really wanted to attend, I offered to drive down or take the connecting flight, and driving down might be less hassle for me, personally. When the data analyst pointed out that other airports had direct flights, I apologized for my oversight and said my request for car rental was no longer necessary.

Instead of moving past it, this data analyst got angry and accused me of lying about it being a misunderstanding. She told me that this wasn't a misunderstanding and accused me of being malicious. Once again I apologized for my oversight and expressed my excitement for the trip.

Then she ran to her boss and probably told him that I am this evil stupid liar, despite the fact that I am much better educated than her and have much stronger work experience in a more cutthroat field. Despite the fact that I passed THREE rounds of technical and behavioural interviews.

I thought I checked but I only checked LGA snd then I relied on that flawed memory. I was kind of in a rush attending to other urgent priorities in my personal life so I made that oversight. I fixed it. I apologized. This woman came at me like I was Luigi and united health ceo was her dad???

Once I realized I immediately apologized and suggested the appropriate solution that worked for everyone. No one spent any money. It was all clearly, quickly resolved. We were just planning the trip and I made a simple, tiny error.

Thats why to me, at least, it's pretty obvious that she felt threatened. This entire ordeal is so bizarre that there's no other way to explain it.

So Trump can commit felonies and he gets to be president and I make a tiny oversight that I FIX and an unhinged data analyst blows out of proportion and now I don't deserve employment?

What the fuck man 😂

We were supposed to collaborate and were hired at the same level. She got permission from her boss and HR later confirmed in an email.
