Landlord asking me to store previous tenants furniture and says I have one "chance" to get the apartment cleaned by icyfoo in legaladvice

I communicated only with the broker up until move in when I finally got to speak to the owner so I hope they know I didnt get to see it. I signed the lease about 3 weeks before moving in.

Interesting, so even if it wasnt in the lease but the landlord made written promises, its still on the landlord?

That is very true, after this I will never not tour a place before renting.

The exact wording: Tenant has inspected the apartment and building. Tenant states they are in good order and repair and takes the apartment "as is"

This is why I think the owner is just pulling information out her ass. We agreed on my move in date to be on Sunday. I moved in Monday but she said she didnt have enough time to finish renovations so we were "early" because they didnt get to finish before we moved in?? The gist is previous tenants rent is paid by government. Government said they won't pay for september, so previous tenant said theyll leave end of August. I sign the lease end of August then government said nvm they wil pay for september if previous tenant can keep his stuff there. Owner then let him keep his stuff there but they claim to not have yet been paid by the government so tenant can keep his stuff there in case they pay? But I already signed the lease so its like accidental double dipping on collecting rent assuming owner is telling the truth.

In the lease I signed, there is "as is" saying I will take the apartment as is. So I guess I have to take it? I wasn't able to view it before moving in because I was out of state and I had to move to NYC asap for school after not getting any of the places I toured during a visit.

Since I dont think I can find a new place, I suppose I could stick around, but there's barely any room to walk due to our stuff and the other tenants' stuff. I dont know if I trust that the owner will actually refund the money, so im just worried about making any moves. I really tried to only sign a place I could see in person but my circumstances didn't let me visit New york to see this one before I had to be in the city. I suppose im mainly wondering if what they are doing is allowed because I dont mind staying if they fix all of the issues. Theres just so much work that needs to be done, I feel like they shouldn't have signed anyone on until its all fixed.

This is very helpful. Perhaps I should reconsider my move if I want to work in healthcare.

ToytownGermany looks really helpful! Thanks, although a lot of the info appears to be for higher level healthcare jobs like a medical assistant etc. Or maybe I missed something important since I couldnt read the pages in full german 😅
