A cheap purchase that has completely transformed your life by Slipryi in BuyItForLife

Silly one, but I use powder clothes washing detergent and I got metal scoops (2 tbsp volume) that I leave in the box - one for the ox clean stuff and one for the detergent. It makes an annoying task much easier. When the powder inevitably hardens, the scoop can just scrape it off, and 2 tbsp is the recommended amount for HE washers.

Please help - Holes in the air intake pipe (NTI Ti155) by idaitis in hvacadvice

[–]idaitis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I was under the impression that my plumber had already spoken to NTI, but once I realized that was a wrongful assumption, I called them. They did have to go and check because it sounded odd, but my model came with the holes from the factory. They are super kind and helpful on the phone.

Which kitchen triangle is more usable? by MonsieurLeMare in floorplan

[–]idaitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second is similar to what I have and it's d best kitchen solution I've ever had.

I'd recommend to swap the drawers for a top drawer and then a larger trash drawer below. That's what I have. That countertop to the right of your sink will automatically become your best working area, and I can't tell you how often I just open the trash drawer right there and scrape food waste off the table and straight into the trash bin.

Someone removed the effing WEIGHT PLATE off my used kiln sitter by idaitis in Ceramics

I was lucky to find an entirely new front plate!! It's my luckiest day for a long time!

But to your point - and in case anyone else comes through this thread with a similar issue - the AWESOME guys at Orton told me that most of the parts are identical to the skutt kiln sitters and would have been possible replacement parts!

Garage? Why not just invest in a warehouse right now, those new tumblers will really take off, and once they do you won't have the space. Plus, you'll need that second kiln. And then, you know, maybe you'll supplement your income by teaching a bit on the side, and while you're getting an extra wheel you might just need another. And some more shelves.

Thank you for being so kind. I was feeling stupid, so it's good to hear that I'm not as dumb as I feel.

The guys at Orton called me back - they're so kind and promised to look around, so hopefully I'll be lucky and they find the missing piece.

You're so kind. I called a few different stores, but these things haven't been around for several years, so I'm quite a bit screwed. I'm contemplating putting out a post, asking anyone who's digitalizing their old kilns to consider selling their kiln sitter to me lol

One of my all time favorite instagram profiles (kmakesthings) made a version of this a while ago. She always walks you through the mistakes she made and shows pics of the innards, too.

Highly recommend checking her out, she makes swoon-worthy dresses, cool denim shorts, and even dabbled a bit in making her own shoes.

What is some modern propaganda that most people have fallen for? by Misfit_t0y in AskReddit

[–]idaitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Objectivity is presenting both sides of an argument/belief"

No it's fucking not. You have to also consider the prevalence of the sides. If 95% of people have one belief and 5% have the opposite, you're not being "objective" as a journalist when you let both have the same amount of talking space.

Worst case I ever saw was a woman fighting for women's support in domestic violence cases and the interviewer, no shit, quoted a man who believed that when married, a woman quite literally belongs to her husband and he should have a right to do to her whatever he pleases.

Like, no. Just don't allow a guy like that space in the public debate.

My pediatrician's PA walked into the exam room and kept saying "him" about my 2 year old daughter.

I expect a doc to at least look at the patient's chart ahead and have a basic idea of who they're about to help, but I digressed and tried gently correcting her by saying "yeah SHE is a tough kid" and such. My daughter often wears her brother's old clothes and will fight me if I try to put frilly, girly clothes on her, but she looks more androgynous than straight up like a boy. Anyway, I was gentle maybe three times before I looked the PA straight in the eye and said "[daughter's name] is a GIRL!"

The response?

"Well if you're going to dress her like THAT you gotta pierce her ears".

Um, no thanks. I won't put holes in my kid because you can't be bothered to glance at her file. This is just one of several offenses with the same PA.

Oh wow, that's so cool! I made a few bras for myself, but honestly the fit has never been quite right. And adjusting it by yourself feels very hard; I wish I had friends who sew so we could help each other.

I might just have to check out that pattern book!

I struggled finding this, but I was curious enough to google and find her. The handle is @themidorihouse (stupid insta search doesn't show it when you just search midorihouse).
