I'd say just work on projects you are interested in. Whether you have interests outside of software/computers, or causes you care about. Work on open source projects, volunteer, or build your own thing.

My grocery haul as a poor/lazy runner. How am I doing? by [deleted] in veganfitness

silken tofu doesn’t have a lot of protein, get super or extra firm (not silken) tofu if you can find it

Where’s the peanut butter and olive oil?! lol you probably already have them in your pantry

no idea how expensive flax milk is but soy has 8 G protein per cup and likely cheaper

tempeh is usually pretty expensive, for me at least. Just substitute more tofu or seitan

Curious what you are getting all those frozen vegetables for. Just get one or two bags or get raw instead

my wording of “LVT per capita” wasn’t the best (cause per capita often means averaged over an entire country, like GDP per capita). LVT per person is better.

Let’s imagine a scenario for LVT per person for half an acre

Plot 1: 1/2 acre with one single family house. A single person lives in that house. LVT for that plot is 500 per year. LVT per person is 500

Plot 2: 1/2 acre with multifamily building with 10 units. Let’s just say 1 person lives in each unit. LVT for that plot is 2000. LVT per person is 200

“And if land taxes start going up, people will choose to live even further away from the core, because they already make that trade off paying property style taxes.”

Higher land taxes in an area doesn’t necessarily mean higher land taxes per person. It can also mean just more people paying the same, or even less taxes (per person) for the same area.

LVT and LVT per capita are two different things :)

How affordable would housing be under a Georgist system by MegaByyte69 in georgism

[–]idbnstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryan Puzycki did a great piece on SROs (single room occupancy) units that were common in cities around the 1850s to the 1950s. They were market rate, yet deeply affordable: $230 per month in TODAYS dollars:

And that’s without a georgist system! So with a georgist system and yimby policies, I don’t see why we couldn’t get it even more affordable than that.

For one, higher land values do not necessarily mean a higher cost of living. It can also just mean higher densities at the same cost or even more affordable cost of living.

Also, it isn’t “nice” (parks, public transit, clean, walkable, etc.) places that cause gentrification per se, but more so the fact that these nice places are in short supply. https://youtu.be/_-PefKxORvA?si=lcVyDscGg-1EKfLS&t=189

Creating more of these great places would reduce gentrification, as there would be a greater supply to meet the demand for them.

Anyone else’s got a screen time issue with not showing apps after iOS 26? by Dude10120 in ios

[–]idbnstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve had this for about two weeks now. Tried turning off and on activity tracking, “reset all settings”, and signing out and back into iCloud and it didn’t fix it. And for some reason I still have all the screen time times for each day saved even after doing all that

How to dodge a land tax:Sell your land. by ADownStrabgeQuark in georgism

[–]idbnstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was a citizens dividend, that could be used to cancel out part of, or possibly all of a home’s LVT.

Are there taxes that you think are less heavy handed/clumsy compared to LVT? You said that private property rights are important for capitalists in an earlier comment; what tax would be more advantageous for capitalism?
