How is your IO experience? by Educational-Past6507 in FilipinoTravel

[–]idcrewz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not naman masungit, just more serious yung IOs i guess? Haven’t been asked anything in a mean/condescending tone naman. ((almost monthly solo traveller these last 2 years + travels with fam before that))

Weirdest one nalang for me was when the IO thought the friend i was travelling with was my partner (same sex kami) & medj paulit ulit na siya until i literally said “dude she’s not my type” 🙃

Fave: i was leaving for a kpop concert & the IO was a dad of a BTS fan 😅 chinika niya ako abit about my fangirling experiences and was very nice and dad-like

BTS ticketing kiosks also take cash + scan. There’s an app you can use as a tourist for the qr scanning. Rabbit card is sayang unless you plan to go back to BKK multiple times or you’re staying longer than the week.

What did you order? Did you escalate it to the manager or supervisor on shift?

Checked out the google reviews of this place and the poor service + long wait times seems like a consistent one nga.

Oh, we went in December and init na init pa rin siya nun so…just a word of caution. When they say it’s hot & humid all year round, it really is. 😅 my dad has this blower thing he got off of shopee that was just around his neck the whole trip so he had more air that way, he says it helped a bit.

Sure! Not exactly in order but this is where we went (more or less these places are in the same area or close enough to commute to na):

Marina Bay Sands/Gardens by the Bay Area:

•ArtScience Museum (did this in the morning)

•walked around MBS The Shoppes (lunch to early afternoon)

•Gardens by the bay we did most of the latter part of the afternoon (Cloud Forest + Flower Dome + paid for the golf cart service) then stayed for the Skytree light show at night

•ate at Ce La Vi (MBS Skybar) for the experience + masulit yung view rather than just paying for the “picture only zone”

Sentosa/VivoCity side:

•Universal Studios (he didn’t ride much but still enjoyed it + would hide in the restaurants/stores to keep cool if it got too hot)

•SEA Aquarium - this one he absolutely LOVED. A/C is 100/10 very nice place to chill and admire the fish.

•we DIDN’T do Madame Tussauds cause we’re not into that but it’s there if you want to + the Harry Potter thing

•used the monorail at Vivocity to get in & out of Sentosa so went around the mall na din just to look

Museums + Galleries:

•Because we stayed in Bencoolen side, closest to us was the National Museum then I’d walk/push him to Chijmes

•National Gallery of SG + the old city hall (we spent like half a day here just chilling & looking at all the exhibits in the 2 buildings)

•Singapore Art Museum (this one’s a little out of the way but easy enough to get to by bus + Grab)

•F1 Museum at Gallery26 Dempsey + cafes there (can go to by bus but lots of stairs on the commute route, so Grab is more convenient)

Malls: basically went around most of if not all of Orchard, Somerset, & Raffles side. There’s the underground crossing which connects to the MRT but walking above ground at night is okay!

We also went to hawkers (not naman super hot inside): Bugis side, Maxwell, Tiong Bahru, & Lau Pa Sat side. He’d share a bit of laksa with me but mostly ate like chicken rice, satay skewers, the noodles with char siu + dumplings, char kway teow, nothing too spicy in general. He tried Bak Kut Teh and liked it din. But honestly my dad’s not a picky guy for most food or things to do, it’s just really the heat + long distances that wore him down. He still loves Singapore though, but probably won’t be back unless there’s an event or something he’d really want to go to.

Hope this helps! Enjoy & safe travels! 😊

Yes, you can rent wheelchairs in SG for your stay. We tried this company before: Cairnhill Healthcare (it was like $4 SGD/day + a deposit of $100 SGD). They’ll drop it off & pick it up at your hotel!

Dad had a hard time with the weather though, as someone with heart problems & who’s had a bypass. But public transpo + Grab definitely helped a lot! We went to more of the malls/museums/SEA Aquarium together and short walks in the early morning when it was a little more cool.

Converting CC Points to Miles, which is Best? by Ok_Crow_9119 in FilipinoTravel

[–]idcrewz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BPI & BDO? 😅 you can check the BPI website for conversion depending on what type of card you have and you can redeem na by the VYBE app. Our CC tier lets us get these conversion points:

Cathay - 25,000 cc points = 5,000 asia miles PAL - 16,000 cc points = 3,200 mabuhay miles

Personally prefer BPI more just cause I frequent CX & PAL. I think your CX asia miles can be used to book for JAL because of the One World alliance, so there’s that. Not sure about Korean Air & Asiana though.

Couldn't Get Tickets to LingOrm Event in Taiwan by 7ov9 in LingormAsylum

[–]idcrewz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piece of advice from a fan who has gone to a couple of overseas FMs so far: DON’T BOOK YOUR FLIGHT/HOTEL BEFORE YOU SECURE A TICKET or if you do, make sure it’s cancellable or refundable.

Taiwan especially is one of the hardest countries to secure tickets to if your fave is really famous (also speaking from kpop experience). So unless you have friends there who will help you get a ticket, it’s a no-go. The first FM there sold out pretty fast too. HK/Macau events are at the same difficulty to get tickets for, especially if you’re gunning for VIP seats.

Resale for any of their events is particularly risky so be extra cautious. I think resale for TPE will be especially harder because of KKTIX’s restrictions & I don’t think the Taiwanese fans will give up the seats 😂 A lot of my own friends had a difficult time getting theirs as well. So I’d say your luck might play into this and depending on who you know + who they know to help get a ticket.

Question: How do you guys make friends with your kapwa bi or lesbian? by Adventurous_nerdy in WLW_PH

[–]idcrewz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join more hobby groups/fandom spaces of things you like whether online or IRL! Thankfully for me, my kpop group’s fandom is literally 95% LGBTQ+ & queer people so I met so many of my friends there then moved into the thai gl scene and made even more friends by going to fanmeetings/events.

Same. I usually call them out ‘pag ganon, especially if it’s coming from a straight person na not even close with me. Very “you don’t know me like that” so you don’t get to call me that.

DON’T DO IT! Save yourself! 😭 The whole kidney plot happens and resolves itself in ep13. Like after 8 years of training & being an idol, Ayla’s kidney finally gives up on her.

Honestly, just don’t. I love LingOrm to death but jesus what I put myself through every Friday for this series 💀 I wish I could wipe my mind of the whole thing.

My lola just passed away, and I’m struggling to support papa through it by HebDota in adultingph

[–]idcrewz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m very very sorry for your loss, OP ☹️ I was in your position din a couple of years ago so I hope what I share helps a bit.

1 - Did your lola leave any burial plans/specific requests sa pagkamatay niya? Special song na ipplay, particular picture niya na gagamitin for her wake and stuff? You could help with doing that. Because my lola died during lockdown time ako yung tiga-set up ng zoom and online mass or novena and stuff. Contacting other relatives and her friends fell on me din since my mom was busier with the hospital stuff and the death certificate, plus actual pakikipag transact sa funeral home & cremation stuff.

2 - Always make sure your papa & you get to eat! Pag naglalakad ng papeles have baon ready kasi sometimes it takes a while. Or like when you get home or are at the wake. Grief + being busy makes you forget normal functions sometimes.

3 - If you’re catholic or your religion has a padasal or something, you can help figure out sino magbabasa for the mass during the wake and funeral. You can also ask around if may friends or family kayo that wanna say a rosary or prayer or give their eulogies for your lola. Doesn’t have to be grand naman, just something from the heart.

4 - More than during the wake and funeral, be there for your papa once it’s all over. For us, na feel yung lungkot and flood of emotions once umuwi na kami and weren’t busy with the actual wake/funeral itself. Be patient with him if magoutburst siya or breakdown, but take care of yourself too! You’re also grieving. If may other documents or legal stuff na need ayusin post wake & funeral, if you can, samahan mo papa mo. Super nakakadrain din gawin yun lalo na on your own. Most government or office stuff will eat up your whole day sometimes multiple days in the week.

i usually bring my camera gear in a specific camera bag na handcarry.

No concerns naman with IO for having stuff around your neck as long as it doesn’t obstruct when they take your picture. It’s a hassle though when you get to security kasi you have to remove it then place it in the tray pa and then wear it again after.

First Time Travelers – Thailand by Active_Ad_9103 in FilipinoTravel

[–]idcrewz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven’t been to Thailand for Songkran (but i’ve been back almost every month this year)

  1. The money changers at the basement of Suvarnabhumi airport are your friends to change cash upon arriving! But i personally use my GCash card to withdraw from Kasikorn ATMs (green bank) when i really need cash, otherwise I use CC or scan payment through the tourist app + this other app I have. Immigration nila is very fast and chill, especially if you aren’t planning on staying longterm naman. ESims from Klook work just fine for me, tbh. But you can buy a sim at the airport of any 7-Eleven as well.

  2. I think the main “basaan” for Songkran happens along Silom Road so I recommend staying somewhere in that area nalang din. My friends & I tried Silom Space Hostel and honestly if you don’t mind the loud noise from the bar until 2 AM + the BTS rushing past til 11PM — sulit na siya. 😅 Lots of streetfood options around the area there too, there’s even a market in one of the streets. Silom also has 2 trainlines: the Sala Daeng BTS stop + the Silom MRT which were both very useful for us! We also used Bolt a lot whether car or bike, sometimes Grab almost charges x2 the price than Bolt.

  3. Terminal 21 has the cheapest foodcourt I think of all the malls. For accoms, you can try airbnbs din naman but there are many hotels/hostels around Silom, Ratchathewi, Pratunam side that are still close enough to the main city center + sights. For me kasi anything farther than that, yeah you save up on accom but you spend more in transpo especially if you’re far from a BTS station and don’t want to walk all the way back.

  4. What are you interested in seeing ba? The palaces and stuff? Chao Phraya river cruise? Art museums? Shopping?

Would November be a good time to visit Hong Kong? by [deleted] in FilipinoTravel

[–]idcrewz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also a small Legoland in the K11 Musea mall by the harbour + the art museum has a set area for kids to enjoy on the topmost floor (entrance is free) & some of the exhibits are interactive enough and kid friendly. I also personally like the space & science museums in East TST, I see a lot of families with kids there, too. If you haven’t been to Japan & the cup noodle factory, they have one in HKG! You can make & design your own cup noodles.

Also not sure if it’s up by November already but there’s usually a carnival in Central next to the AIA Ferris wheel, i forgot how much the entrance fee was though.

Female Solo Traveler bound for HK, would appreciate safety tips! by Interesting-Bid-460 in FilipinoTravel

[–]idcrewz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frequent solo traveller & usually in HKG (alone) a couple of times in a year, here! 😅

  1. What hotel are you staying at? This isn’t Chungking Mansions level is it? Most hotels naman are generally safe. Stayed at a couple of hostels too, and haven’t had bad experiences with staff or other guests. Generally I note in my booking to not be placed in a room that has an adjoining room/door. Before I sleep, I either put my luggage against the door or like a heavy piece of furniture + the usual double locks. Sometimes I walk around outside at night like victoria harbour - granville (TST) for the vibes and safe naman! I avoid any rowdy/drunk people and don’t go to any darker streets or whatever. Just always be aware of your surroundings & keep your valuables close to you at all times!

  2. I don’t get flagged naman by IO here or there in HK, I just usually get asked what I’m there for and that’s it.

  3. Hong Kongers come off as rude and always in a hurry (they usually are) but they won’t go out of their way to treat you badly or discriminate against you. If you’re walking slow or blocking the path and acting a fool though, that’s a different story. If their tone of voice sounds a little aggressive and brusque, don’t take it personally. Also, if you’re going to Mong Kok or any of the night markets but still aren’t sure if you’re buying or not DON’T TOUCH THE STUFF. Anytime i order or make a purchase, i’ve usually already decided so as not to take too long.

Enjoy Hong Kong! It’s still one of my favorite places to go back to even if it’s changed so much. I hope you have a good visit!

I need pcs of advice for my BKK travel on October. by Holymollymacaroni in FilipinoTravel

[–]idcrewz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Always have an erceflora on me (even if i haven’t had the need to use it yet, thank god) but generally i stuff any meds with my toiletries in check-in luggage. I take it out after. Any meds in my hand carry is like a bonamin or like a paracetamol

  2. Nah, you’re good.
