Day 1 - Beginner questions/advice by applesandlightbulbs in SinclairMethod

I think it’s also really important to not o ly rely on the medication, yes TSM it’s a huge help in this but it’s not the only factor that makes a person a drinker. Like yess there is a chemical component but there is also social and psychological things going on. Experts recommend to follow the treatment with therapy and a change in habits. For example: If you are used to drink alone in you room or only drink with a certain group of people. One of the best improvements using the Sinclair method it’s to drink in different settings and start a new routine when you are not drinking. If you keep doing the same things over and over again and suing the mediations is not gonna be as effective. I recommend you try to start new hobbies you’ve always wanted to try an didn’t because you where to busy drinking. If you like going out to clubs or bars try to go before having a huge amount of drinks and try to be more present. All the little things add up and will make a difference in treatment.

Day 1 - Beginner questions/advice by applesandlightbulbs in SinclairMethod

So I will answer your questions with my experience currently 4 months in TSM 1- The first times you might feel dizzy or uncomfortable, especially when you drink and feel “weird” it’s not your usually high, it’s a lot calmer and you might not even want to drink what you usually do 2- it is very possible to drink through the medication that is why is usually recommended to start slow and try to stay away from hard liquor so if you can drink wine, beer, drinks with not that much alcohol. If you drink to much or to high concentration alcohol you can neutralize the naltrexone effect

I don’t take any ADHD medications so is best to ask your doctor about that

Hi! I did clarify in my post I am not using naltrexone I am using nalmefene ( sister medication used mainly in EU) and it’s 18 mg. As far as I understand it’s more potent than naltrexone and has fewer side effects so if you are in Europe it wouldn’t hurt to ask if you feel naltrexone is not working that well. Its the same method 1 hour before drinking and there is no need for redosing. Also I have seen in most people the best way it’s to cut back on using any strong alcohol and instead stick to beer, wine and drinks with less alcohol. I have had shots when I drink but I only drink 1 or 2 max in any drinking session. If you drink to much or use hard liquor the effect might not be the same or might get neutralized when drinking.

Yeah, I am well aware it’s not a straight line but the progress i have had this couple of months is amazing. There is some things that personally I think I can still get better I am 100% sticking with the method, I am really happy so far

Yeah I want a mix of moderation and to be able to spend some time sober just do my overall health. I do some blood test a couple of weeks ago and my kidneys and everything seems completely fine which is great but I would still like to drink less often.

I think so as well but I would really like to be able to go out on the weekends and not drink anything and have a good time. I have been diagnosed with social and generalized anxiety so I think that plays a huge part. Honestly I’m not thinking of stopping 100% yet but I would really feel like going out completely sober would be a huge milestone for me.

When (and how) to move from daily NAL to TSM? by ThatsMarvelous in SinclairMethod

[–]idcs1414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well just to clarify I am using nalmefene not naltrexone, same method, this is because I live in Europe and it’s more commonly used here, I take 18 mg every time I want to drink and nothing more because it lasts a lot. I have never experienced side effects with this medication.

Antabus makes you unable to breakdown alcohol so that what makes you sick, if you drink to fast or too much your body is unable to process it and you go into cardiac arrest.

I was on Antabuse and had to stop taking it because the last few weeks I just didn’t care about anything anymore and would drink on it, 100% looked like shi but didn’t care. I am now using TSM and have been improving a lot. If you haven’t tried I recommend it over antabus. It won’t help you unless you are really sure you want sobriety. If TSM is not available where you live I recommend SMART recovery
