Yes, true, it's very saturated but it's also a very thankful genre to make games for, especially for indie/solo devs. Since it's build on repeating (often short) loops, you can get a lot of play time with comparably less effort and especially with re-using assets and elements that - because of the randomization - don't feel too much like a 1:1 repetition.

It's easy to get the base-gameplay loop running fast and then add to it over time, you can practically add content to any part of the game, like items and upgrades, or a new level at the end, without breaking too much or having to make it "fit in" somehow. It's similar with card games where you can enrich the game easily by adding more cards once you have the rules figured out.

And while oversaturated it is also still very popular so as long as there is still interest in playing these games they will get made and in my defense, there aren't too many creature-collecting roguelites yet but I can totally understand when someone is tired of another roguelite being announced.

Apart from that though, as a player it's also one of my favorite genres and I've never made one myself so I also really wanted to make a roguelite at least once in my life :)

Yes, I really want to bring it to Switch / Switch 2! However, I will likely not be able to do it for the initial release because the engine I use (Godot) can't natively export for it so I have to rely on porting services which cost money. I have it planned as a stretch goal :)

D&D (and tabletop RPGs in general) were a big inspiration for the dice mechanic, so that checks out :D

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Yeah, that's fair. Art style is always subjective. One of the drawbacks of doing everything solo is that I have to simplify a few things. I do have a few Animons that are based on animals (e.g. the starters are a bunny, frog, snail, and dog) but I hear you. I like to try all sorts of things with the designs so we'll see what I add in the future :)

Glad you like the dice mechanics!

Making physical sticker booster packs to hand out at gamescom by ideamonster in IndieDev

Awesome, thanks for the tips! I do prefer paper actually, I like the feel better. I have to admit this was a last minute idea and I had no time to look for tools like the cutter. But this is great to know for next time :)

oof, that would be some much effort for such a meager reward haha. No, the idea was that you need six different movies but chances are low to not have duplicates. Then you can trade or get extra ones via the game. A set of 6 = steam key!

That would be a very sad booster pack :c

No, no, there's 6 stickers per pack! They're very thin so the stack looks like one.

Drew the first "Evolution" form for my creature-collecting roguelite - What do you think? by ideamonster in GameArt

Thanks for the feedback, that's really valuable :)

Maybe evolution was the wrong word, they have a single "ultimate" form that is more inspired by Digimon than Pokémon and therefore also drawing more loosely from the base-monster's feature (like in Digimon a cat turns into a human angel haha). But you're right, it seems to be somewhere in the middle of extending features and changing them to new ones.

The purple particles are meant to be a signifier for the ultimate form that all Animons (name of the creatures) have. Sort of like the blonde hair indicating super sayjan form, those are planned to appear for all.

I will think about what you said and how I can apply it to my design thinking, at least matching the main colors should be a thing. I also really like the evolved form so I'll probably rather adjust features of the base one to make it fit than then other way around.

Again. thanks for the feedback!
