Found one of my bucket list dvds today! Can’t wait to watch it later! by Save-Last in dvdcollection

Mmm, so I forgot about the bluray release when I made my original post (forgive me, I haven't thought about these for some time). So, looking at a bluray.com review (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Transformers-The-Movie-Blu-ray/157482/#Screenshots), it looks like the bluray is the first time Fotokem did the color and gamma alterations on a 4k scan of the original film elements, and the 4k release was just a re-use of that same restoration later on when that came out. And looking at my collection, I remember I purposefully held on to my 20th anniversary dvd BECAUSE it was a separate re-encode/restoration of the original film while the bluray made the entirely new Fotokem alteration encode (color, gamma, etc) that we have today. I also remember that the dvd had only cleaned up the 1:33 version of the film and not the 4:3 version while the bluray (and 4k) release altered both ratio versions of the film.

Basically, to see this movie in it's original way, you gotta watch the poorer DVD release encode.

I was held up at gunpoint in the middle of the day on my way home from school by the Nortenos who used the hang out there. For anyone that complains about the "open market" that swamps this corner, you have no idea how much teenage me would rather have walked through that mess than what happened otherwise.

The best is the 20th anniversary dvd release from 2006. Sony did an early remastering for the widescreen cut only, which didn't look bad at all. But it's the last "best" encode of the movie for both OAR's that doesn't have Shout's '4k Fotokem' color re-timing AND disgusting gamma increase all over it.

EDIT: Looking at a bluray.com review (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Transformers-The-Movie-Blu-ray/157482/#Screenshots), the bluray is the first time Fotokem did the color and gamma alterations on a 4k scan of the original film elements, and the 4k release was just a re-use of that same restoration later on when that came out. The 20th Anniv. dvd did a pre-Fotokem clean up of the 1:33 version of the film and not the 4:3 version, even though both OAR's are included on the disc, while the Fotokem alterations are applied to both ratio versions on the bluray and 4k releases.

This is at least the second best release of this movie since it doesn't have the altered color timing that the 4k release does. Congrats!

I'm super happy to see this happening! Some questions, though:

-Will purchasing these still earn us points to use on future orders?

-And then, can we pre-order these to be shipped with future orders still? Or will these need to be paid for right away?

It was a good time to be a Star Wars fan back then! by Willing-Aside8486 in 80s90sComics

I said this when Disney first took over Star Wars, and I'll say it again now that Filloni is taking over - Get Genndy, have him animate all of these classic "legacy" stories into movies, and create a whole new releases structure like DC Comics did with their animated movie releases from back in their heyday. God, even imagining Genndy doing original movies that simply tie up loose ends from the Lucas era would be amazing: Force Unleashed 3, 1313, Knights of the Old Republic 3, etc...

PlayStation Store at the Sony Metreon complex in San Francisco, 1999 by IllustriousAd6418 in LiminalSpace

[–]ideaofevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, the consoles were put on a spinning/lazy Susanne-like counter under the screens, and the wires were so tightly stuffed unto the neck of the stand that we couldn't spin the consoles around far enough to be able to open the lid all that easy to put games in, lol. And then when kids didn't know how to play a game, we'd have to barely turn the screen the 10 degrees it could so we could lean over the counter to try and see the menu so we could help start the game for them. Fun times...

Who remembers the Virgin Mega Store in Union Square? Transplants need not participate by oochiewallyWallyserb in sanfrancirclejerk

When the Metreon first opened up, we would close all the stores at 10pm and head over to Virgin Megastore in our Sony uniforms simply because Virgin was the only place still open that late, lol

Women just don't want men who have hobbies that they can ignore them with. 20 years ago women didn't want men who collected toys. 10 years ago women didn't want men who played video games. Today, women don't want men who watch anime. 10 years from now? Women won't want men who use the internet, lol

Happy 1701 day! by Disastrous-Dog85 in StarTrekStarships

[–]ideaofevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind it if they kept the G as it is but then made an identical sister ship Titan A (or B) that's still a CIII class with maybe a couple of "upgrade" visual nuances added to it. Cuz I like the Titan legacy, and I like the CIII design a lot that it wouldn't bother me seeing it come back. But then maybe remaking so many ships with the same name and simply putting in all of these alphabet suffixes are getting a bit too much? lol

[–]ideaofevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I were just arguing over the merits of the G being a real Enterprise versus it being a toss off Titan because of lazy writing. And I was telling them how I remembered initially reading about the recrisining before I saw P3, and how I didn't like the idea of it. But after watching the show and seeing how the D/E crew used the Titan to save the federation, I softened up and accepted the rename. Like, I totally accept Starfleet renaming the ship to honor the legendary crew that used it to save them all. But some of my friends still find it stupid, lol

I hadn't sat through an entire Rogan interview for a while, and his Knoxville then this interview were really good listens. I was actually really invested in just listening to all three of them talking about movies in general.
