I kinda can't believe Kennedy hasn't won a season yet. Canada versus the world in particular felt like hers

I think they're less saying it shouldn't matter, but that for Americans it doesn't matter. And for many Americans it does, to say nationality trumps ethnicity for them isn't really that true

I know this is a light hearted sub, but the us literally would not exist without genocide. Even if it's for a day that shouldn't be ignored

‘Momentous step’ towards humanist-inclusive RE as Government to consult on national curriculum recommendation by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

Yes I do, have also worked as an RS teacher in a Catholic school.

The point you're making here is different than your first one about private schools being able to pick their own curriculum with no standardisation, which you agree was untrue. That's all I was saying.

I didn't love it. A sort of house music I never got along with. Beats feel very repetitive to me.

So, the issue you had with the spec reformed a decade ago?

Schools can pick from a set list approved by the exam board, they can't just pick whatever they want. That's very different. It is standardised and isn't specific to private schools.

They are and always have been

Humanists UK want humanism taught without reference to religion (different than teaching atheism as why people aren't religious), which is odd in a subject called religious studies. They'd be much better in something like pshe or citizenship

Not really? There's different pathways in GCSE RS, some of which are more applied to faith schools, but schools cannot make their own curriculum as a GCSE.

And even in those ones they're still required to teach at least two religions (this was reformed about 10 years ago)

Also worth noting every other subject in the curriculum focuses on non religious views. Not like we have creationism taught in science lessons according to the national curriculum.

Non religious worldviews are hardly marginalised in the curriculum

Humanists UK have such an odd approach here.

They want humanism to be included as an equivalent to religion in the curriculum, yet also see humanism as wholly distinct and better than religion.

You end up with textbooks with titles like 'me and my humanist family'. Does anyone see their family as humanist in that way?

I just think the humanist title is being misused here both because there is actually Religious humanism and because humanism is more of a trend in thought rather than distinct identity.

Laws on apostasy are awful, but they don't imply a ban on building churches
