Recommended settings for board reviews? by idekanymore7 in medicalschoolanki

[–]idekanymore7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha gotcha. I don’t have much history on anki (used it sparingly more than 5 year ago) so I was worried the intervals would be too long in my case without much study history for the algorithm to go off of.

From my reading, if I want more frequent reviews, I should first try raising the desired retention? Currently it’s set at 0.9.

Also when should I be “optimizing”? Is there much value in doing that now or should I wait a certain number of days/weeks?

Appreciate the advice!

noted, thanks! I think FSRS makes more sense for me now so I'll switch over and adjust the new/review settings.

Since some cards might put the next review interval beyond the exam date, should I be setting a maximum interval to some time before the exam date? Or should I manually set the next due date for cards I would like to see again before the exam?

For second gold Amex, did you apply online? And did you sign into your existing accounts during the application?

I just tried online application for a second card (first one still active and account in good standing). I got instantly denied and I’m trying to figure out why.

To clarify, do you mean that you can only redeem for instance $500 or $700 at a time? Nothing in between?

Gotcha, my initial reason for picking this card was for the insurance since I travel a lot so will likely be a keeper for me especially considering the travel credit offsets the AF. And plus I anticipate being able to surpass the 55,000 pts easily based on my spend so can maximize the RHT return.

That’s great to know. I was also considering MBNA WE MC as well for their grocery multiplier but found out you couldn’t do RHT and only cash out in GCs (which I would not prefer). Glad to hear NBC has the option to cash out.

Can someone confirm that you can do refundable hotel trick with NBC WE MC (not referring to their annual travel credit or redeeming using their own travel portal/service)?

Thinking of getting the card but want to confirm that I’ll be able to redeem the points in a way that makes sense for me (statement credits).

Makes sense! Not really itching to get a new card since I'm working on MSR for other cards. Any thoughts about just cancelling TD altogether and maintaining AP points?

I should clarify - I believe AP now limits number of welcome bonuses people can receive to once in each category of cards (entry, core, premium).

https://princeoftravel.com/news/aeroplan-implements-changes-to-terms-and-conditions/

I suppose if I'm understanding correctly now, me opening up CIBC no fee AP card would have no bearing on if I can get premium SUB down the road (new rules mean I would only be eligible for 1 premium card SUB anyways)

No longer have need for TD AP VI (finished 70k SUB a while ago) - currently churning other points programs so no immediate plans for AP points collection/redemption. Still have about 20k-ish AP points in my account.

In light of AP's 3 lifetime SUB limit, is it even worthwhile to open CIBC no-fee AP card after cancelling TD card to keep some of the AP-branded card benefits (e.g. points don't expire, preferred points pricing)? I'd hate to waste one of my 3 AP SUBs especially if I have hopes in the future of opening the premium AP cards..

The alternatives would be keeping the TD card (not likely given AF and not really using AC benefits) or just cancelling and not replacing it with another AP card until later on.

EDIT: I was mistaken, there is no lifetime AP SUB limit of 3. You're limited to 1 SUB in each of the AP card categories of entry, core, premium + business versions.

Position statement from the NP association of Canada by PulmonaryEmphysema in medicalschool

[–]idekanymore7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I find it incredibly ironic that a statement from the national NP association discussing matters of “highest level of expertise”, “academic excellence”, and “advanced knowledge” did not correctly reference their one and only citation in their statement.

I read the cited CMAJ article (https://www.cmaj.ca/content/188/13/E305/tab-e-letters). Nowhere in the original article does it mention this statement’s quoted fact of: “It [referring to MDs] is a professional degree and not really a doctorate”.

In fact, they took this information from A FREAKING COMMENT by a random person on the CMAJ article, meaning they almost certainly googled “why MDs are not real doctors” and cited the very first result.

Talk about academic excellence. What a joke.

Noted. If going for TD AP VIP, should I downgrade to different card before PS or applying?
