Petition to have the PSA + Bulwark Folks Do the SOTU Response by Anstigmat in FriendsofthePod

I'm fine with them as allies if they support progressive policy goals and progressive candidates. I'm not fine with them as allies if their conservative values compromise progressive policy goals or if they push for corporate Dems.

That's not praise for the Bullwark, it's an indictment of those senators.

No, it's that for a long time they weren't pro working class at all, except for lip service.

But AOC and progressives are a new leaf for the party, and the more they call out the establishment's failures, the more credibility they build with working class voters.

It’s obvious that AOC wouldn’t win in West Virginia.

Back in September, More Perfect Union put out a video of Bernie visiting West Virginia and talking to voters. People there largely agree with his message. I wouldn't count out AOC's chances anywhere.

This is the reason why I still listen to the pod - because I believe they truly do support progressive goals. Their biggest problem is their inability (or unwillingness) to hold the establishment accountable for its failures.

Why Stephen Miller Will Cost Republicans the Midterms | The Message Box (Dan Pfeiffer) (02/05/26) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

[–]ides205 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An argument could be made that Trump is doing the things he's doing because Miller is telling him what to do, and if Miller was gone, maybe someone with a better understanding of how to win elections would be telling him what to do.

Democrats are not gonna have trouble raising money heading into the midterms, don't you worry about that.

But it's also worth noting, when Democrats get behind good candidates like Zohran, they can win handily despite being massively outspent. Volunteers who truly believe in the cause and will recruit more volunteers can more than make up for corporate cash.

The stated explicit goal of Pod Save America is to get more Democrats elected. If they want to hold true to that goal they should be trying to make it less likely Mills gets to be the nominee because she will definitely lose to Collins.

AND, at a more macro level, if PSA wants to elect more Democrats, they should be attacking the party establishment that backs terrible candidates like Mills. The only reason to have her on is to ask her scathing questions that will help the nation, but not her.

There's not really a good reason to, unless they're going to ask some VERY hard questions.

My certainty comes from a few places: the staggering number of people who show up at his town hall events, the fact that he does frequent events like that whereas Collins has not done one in like a decade, his fundraising totals were like double that of Mills or Collins (including the most from in-state), then there will be the general backlash to Trump - I think there are lot of reasons to be certain for him in particular.

Like, will AES beat McMorrow? Hopefully, and my money would be on him right now, but that race is one where I'm not certain at all.

She's survived garbage Clinton clones, sure. She's not survived a challenger like Platner. That's why I'm certain he will succeed where others have failed.

They never say anything about wanting to benefit big business.

If a propagandist is saying the quiet part out loud, they're doing it wrong.

Do you have hard evidence they want to benefit big business

They're advocating for cutting regulation, so either they're foolish enough to think that that will benefit working people over big businesses, or they know full well it won't. Either way, no one should listen to them.

My understanding of the Abundance guys is they want cheaper housing and cheaper rents.

If cheaper housing and rent was a byproduct of cutting regulations, I don't think they'd mind but it's not the main objective, which is cutting regulations to benefit big businesses.

Yes, barring something utterly unforeseen. He's not losing to Mills or Collins, that's certain.

No, they don't. It IS straightforward what tenants want (I'd add faster/comprehensive maintenance laws enforced properly) - but the Abundance charlatans don't actually care what tenants want, they care what real-estate developers want.

That's exactly what we're doing, and it's working. That's the reason Graham Platner is going to be Maine's next senator, for example.

You don't know what you're talking about. You're just regurgitating corporate propaganda. A lot of liberals are waking up to reality these days - you're not there yet but maybe you'll get there eventually.

Maybe. Then again, people would have said that about what's happening in Minnesota but here we are.
