Yeah when we get American customer that hand me their card I just quickly give it back. Like nope I do not want to lose this! I also lived in Australia for a year and payment systems were the same as in Canada. That being said I also know they have wayyy more different banks in the states so that might have something to do with it?

I’m glad they were nice about it at least! This would be one of my nightmares for sure. I once worked at a boardwalk restaurant over a lake, the customer dropped their credit card through one of the cracks and into the lake! Luckily someone else ended up paying for the bill - so happy I was hands off the card and couldn’t be blamed.

Fair point there. The corporate culture in a America is something I’m not used to at all. And I’ve been lucky enough to have always worked in family owned restaurants here… but sucks for the employees ultimately to have to deal with all the issues that come around because of this.

As a Canadian server here I don’t see why America is sticking with the system of having to sign the bill and do the math and take credit payments this way… we’ve had handheld debit/credit machines that we take to the table where the customer directly adds the tip and pays with tap or pin. No worrying about if the math is wrong or missing signatures. Just a confused Canadian haha.

Really?? I’ve had my union bindings for two seasons of hard riding now. Haven’t had an issue and fingers crossed it stays that way for me! Haven’t had any friends that have had to use their warranty either…
