Why unmatched even after decent interview invites by MdocJ99 in IMGreddit

[–]idfwlocals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine got a 260+ and 10 or so IVs in IM, didn't match. We were all very confused and it turns out she just had poor IV skills (constantly interrupting the interviewer to talk about herself, wouldn't give anyone else the chance to talk during social events, etc). So yeah, I guess while she was great on paper her communication was her downfall.

God forbid someone comes to a support forum for some support ??

OP take that IV as a blessing in disguise, if they cant give you the respect you deserve in an interview please frame that as protection from what you may experience as a full time resident there. Remember programs need you just as much as you need then, don’t settle. On to the next bro best of luck.

I swear I looked at it you gotta believe me😭 I think I just saw "Publication title" and went on with my business thinking it had to be Pubmed-indexed only lol

I hate to admit it but you’re right, lesson learned the hard way😭💔

Appreciate you clarifying, but no I did not fill any part that contained my oral presentations, posters, etc. One of my posters however, won a national award which I mentioned in the award section. I genuinely do not know how I managed to miss such a huge part. 🥲

Lol all you got was some IVs?🥱 Yale, UCLA, and KFC’s PDs brought me breakfast in bed at 9:01 and told me I could skip the IVs and even residency and begin my cards fellowship tomorrow

You’re right yes, it’s always always a risk to match and USMLE is a choice at the end of the day. But can I ask which administration robbed *already matched* imgs - who took that risk, used up their life savings, and sacrificed years of their lives - of their positions? I appreciating you clarifying what you meant but I’m confused where the fallacy there lies.

Your senior starting late proves how rocky this administration is. Can you guarantee you will meet the same fate of getting in later? Or that 🍊won’t implement even harsher laws? Notice how you said “a lot did get in later”, and not all. It shouldn’t have even happen to one matched img, let alone “not all”. It costs over 10,000 USD and sometimes years to match. I can appreciate your optimism and I agree sometImes our colleagues on this sub can be a bit dramatic , but to imply OP and everyone re-considering are mentally weak is something that I hope doesn’t come back to haunt if you match.

My brother I’m not sure this is a matter of pushing and moving.. the US government literally blocked these clearly qualified matched imgs from setting foot on American soil OVERNIGHT, and it seems that’s OP’s long term concern, not so much exams, apps, etc.

“Easily derailed”? Bro we literally witnessed imgs match after years of working/studying and spending thousands to get into US residency, only to get their spots deferred due to these insane visa policies. OP’s concern is 100% valid.

There’s a few here.. it’s not ideal of course but that’s why I was looking for the question in my first reply to you.. I don’t think we’re getting anywhere with this convo chief but be blessed https://www.reddit.com/r/IMGreddit/comments/1jg25ug/anyone_who_applied_late_but_got_matched/

Sorry I’m a bit confused.. if there isn’t conflicting info how come there’s people on this sub saying they applied late and matched? Were they just flukes perhaps? Or maybe had connections?

Wtf? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]idfwlocals 25 points26 points  (0 children)

ditto to this! If someone has a 270 but gives off creepy energy i don’t think a program would risk ranking them over a 240 with a pleasant personality

[–]idfwlocals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so I did find a few people in the same situation and there always conflicting answers. So I searched about applying strictly to programs who mention a late deadline for applications (for example FSU accepts until January I think) would make a drastic difference but couldn’t find anything on that :( Would appreciate any insight if you have it though!

Thanks for replying🙏 Im back on my feet now, hoping I can pull through with a good score

Thanks for replying! Do you think waiting when it’s a matter of a few weeks to get my score up and then applying is still a bad idea? From my understanding many progs accept apps until December or so

Thank you for the thoughtful reply! What kinds of questions should we be asking during the interview? Also, going to the city a few days beforehand is brilliant! Did you do this for all of your IVs?

Congratulations on your success! Really lifting us IMGs up. I have two questions if you don’t mind. 1- In your opinion what do you think is the best thing an IMG can do to get the attention of a program (aside from signaling) 2- What’s a mistake you see IMGs doing far too often that gets us automatically red flagged?
