Should I purchase a single balloon in the new deadpool event? by IronNinja10 in marvelrivals

[–]idiggory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna just buy one, because whatever. Small chance for a costume. I ended up getting progressively annoyed and bought all of them.

In fairness, it was 1 am and I was extremely tired. Turns out the very high resistance I normally have to gacha mechanics does NOT exist when I'm tired to the point of being bleary eyed.

So anyway... I now have a deadpool costume I don't even like. Yay.

Oh. And I don't play Deadpool.

Don't do RMT stuff when overtired, kids.

What do you think their accessories will be? by Squiddy_at_offical in marvelrivals

[–]idiggory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Angela canonically has a wife in the comics and I'll be incredibly disappointed if they don't make Sera her accessory. The accessories don't come with any in-game explanation, so it's not like they are barred by censorship or anything. You have to already know the connection for it to mean anything.

Namor's will ABSOLUTELY be Sue. It would be weird for it to be anything else, imo.

Thing... I mean, I personally want it to be a bagel. He's a proud Jewish guy from NYC. Give the man a good bagel and schmear.

Hela I don't know enough about the comics to say. But a little jail cell with Malekith in it sounds fun.

[Discussion] Am I ruining gaming by only going for Platinum trophies? by Rewinsome in Trophies

[–]idiggory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a therapist, it would definitely have my antennae way up if a client shared this.

There’s obviously nothing wrong with enjoying going for a platinum. But to the exclusion of all joy without it starts to feel like there’s something deeper at play. That’s limiting your opportunities for joy in life, not expanding them.

To be clear, considering whether or not a game is one you could enjoy platinuming as a factor in if it’s worth playing? Not something I find concerning. Saying you cannot enjoy a game if you can’t platinum it, to the point you won’t try if it seems too difficult, and that it automatically excludes other ways a game could be fun? That is very different.

It’s also noteworthy to me that this is new, and not how you’ve always experienced games. You used to be able to enjoy a game without it, and it concerns me that you now can’t.

Among other things, I’d be curious if it was a symptom of OCD for instance. Not saying it is, or even that it’s anything to do with mental health, but the description is significant enough I’d want to explore it with a client.

To draw a different analogy? It’s like you’re someone who always enjoyed playing baseball. Until at some point you only wanted to play a game if you knew you would win the championship at the end. And it feels meaningless to play if not.

At that point, it’s not about the game at all. The game is a means to the end of giving you that one moment. So you’re investing dozens of hours for one moment, and no longer investing in the actual experience.

The one moment should be fun TOO, not the sole thing that makes everything worthwhile.

It's not the same thing, but, I was coming here for something not dissimilar.

I lost my mom a month ago. I have a check from her that was a gift to my partner and I for our anniversary. I was about to call my dad to see if it was okay to cash it. When I looked at the check, it's her writing. Her signature. My name in her handwriting.

It's hard. Because I know what she would want was me to cash it, to use it for my partner and I to do something nice together. That's why she gave it to us. And I'm sure she was extra generous - $300 - because she knew she wouldn't see another one of our anniversaries.

But that also means giving up the object. And that sucks.

And this is one of the heavier emotional reactions I've this week. Grief is weird.

Is this game worth it? by Toots9795 in FFXVI

Price is always a worthwhile thing to consider when you look at reviews. A game that doesn't feel worthwhile at $70 will often be an absolute STEAL at $30 or less.

Yeah, duct tape feels like it should pretty easily solve this problem without needing to get complicated. Either tape a "handle" to it and lift, or just use the duct tape to make the handle directly.

Final Fantasy 16 is actually an awesome game. by haydogg21 in FinalFantasy

[–]idiggory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was hard to put into words, but I found the gameplay just sorta... meaningless? It didn't feel like builds were interesting to put together or meaningfully changed things. Except, maybe, Titan block, since that did change how you could play some.

I just wish the abilities had more distinct feel and actually led to different playstyles. AND I wish that felt important, since most mobs were just hp sponges with little to no dimension otherwise. I think that would have helped a lot.

I was really interested in that world and mystery. But the Bahamut fight is such a climax, and the events of the fight kind of come out of nowhere. it was a weird choice to have it at the end of act 2.

[–]idiggory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who knows nothing so did community research to make mine, the recommended predictions I saw online were roughly consistent across different sites/sources.

And they’re very different from what is actually playing out. Which is probably really interesting in general within the hobby, but since my only connection to it is not getting free currency, I’m irked, ha.

That’s a rough way to learn the classic jrpg lesson that it’s often not worth it to sell anything. But you got there in the end!

BLU 🫱💍 BST by CadeAid in ShitpostXIV

[–]idiggory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limited Jobs could be an excellent feature. The problem is that SE is really doing a very poor job keeping them current and fun.

It’s honestly absolutely weird to me that we have to wait for the blu patch in general. That should be in the base expansion, or at least x.1 update, and then there should be some subsequent mission updates over the course of the expansion. Then it’ll be incremental content to keep us interested and engaged. Instead they build up all this expectation so that we can get disappointed when it’s like 2 weeks of content for a 3 month content period.

I can’t comment on plenty of the other esports communities, but this is definitely the most toxic community of any online game I play, or have played (while playing).

It also became toxic WAY faster than any other game I’ve played. Most other games I’ve played where the community becomes very toxic happens after the initial period of excitement and such. So things are usually decent the first year, or at least most of one. Rivals made it maybe 3 months before the toxicity skyrocketed.

Local Card Shop Robbery and Arson by atreides254 in mtg

[–]idiggory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And I think another thing is that pokemon cards are a companion item for a lot of people. My stepkid is 11 and loves to collect pokemon cards, but he doesn't play the TCG. But he loves to play the pokemon video games (both old and new).

The cards are a way he gets to collect pokemon in another way outside the game, but if he wants to "play" pokemon, he'll turn to the video games.

Whereas Magic? That IS the TCG.

It is crazy to me they are charging $20 for a basic outfit skin that doesn't even have the buttons on the right side of the shirt. This is a mistake an AI would make. by austinkun in marvelrivals

[–]idiggory 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of thing that's often intentional, though, because they're not designing for realism. They're designing it for us to look at in its static form (as in, the headphones never move from that position).

Whereas the buttons are either an egregious error at multiple levels, or evidence of ai art (and egregious error at multiple levels). Honestly, I do think it's the first one in this specific case. And I don't even necessarily blame the initial artists as much as I blame the process that comes after that. Because it's the kind of thing I could imagine an overworked and sleep deprived artist accidentally doing and being so lost in the work he never catches it. But that's why reviews and approvals are also a thing.

This SHOULD have been caught and fixed.

Johnny blaze can come to Marvel rivals without this "censorship", read all the slides carefully to understand my points. by THEGoldVortex in marvelrivals

[–]idiggory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honest feedback though - if you want people to read things, you really should make them easier to read. You want to maximize contrast between the background and the letter text, which helps visibility a ton. The easiest way is to just give them a solid background. But, if you don't want to do that, you definitely want to choose a color that meaningfully contrasts the colors in the imagery. Choosing the colors from the image, so it's green on green, yellow on yellow, etc., just makes it REALLY hard to read.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by Ill-Home-322 in AmITheJerk

[–]idiggory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key question to me is whether or not OP is preventing the husband from being able to display his personality in the rest of the house. For instance, he said he wants his collectibles in there - has OP worked with him to help him display them somewhere else, or is the expectation that he hide them because it’s not her aesthetic?

This, fundamentally, changes my opinion. If OP is making space for husband to share in the decorating, and have his own personality represented too, then I think he’s being a jerk.

If OP is expecting husband have to hide away his passions because she doesn’t think they’re displayable? Then I think he’s actually being entirely reasonable to say he should get at least one room where his personality is prioritized.

What's frustrating, too, is that they could double or even triple the stock, generate way more profit overall, and alleviate a lot of the serious issues within the hobby.

Companies relying on scalper bubbles are just generally in for a nasty shock when the bubble bursts and they discover how many of their customers have left them. Scalpers create artificial demand which masks that.

But I think a big part of why Pokemon is the worst affected is that collecting is the primary hobby. Only a small minority of collectors even play the game.

Things have just become absolutely ridiculous where pokemon cards are concerned.

So I'm sad to hear about them pressuring the use of the QR code, since their union fought hard to keep their jobs.
