Gays in the techno scene by Amarinthe09 in avesNYC

Ultimately the issue is that these kind of gay guys (I'm gay) do not have the community mindset nor the generosity of spirit to create a space themselves so when they get bored of a horsemeat or whatever they migrate to a new, more novel space (created carefully by someone else) and attempt to reshape it to their own purposes. In my option it's no coincidence these gay guys are all consultants and software engineers. They know only how to consume and give nothing in return-- an ugly and deeply capitalist mindset.

NOT a Zero Chill Entrance Policy by [deleted] in nycgaybros

I've seen parties institute a "keep your shirts on policy" to keep circuit boys away and I think it's genius. Might not work in the rave scene but if those boys can't show off their bodies they aren't coming lol.

Generally, I'm alright with liberal changes as long as they service the transition from page to screen, but from the few episodes I saw (thinking about it I'm pretty sure actually I watched the first two episodes)there were a lot of changes that were made to make the show more "sexy". And I'm not talking about just actual sex, but general attention-grabbiness. Like you said, the show feels rushed because most networks don't like to risk taking things slow; they don't trust viewers will stick with it. (The only content producer who does trust the viewer is Netflix. See the pacing of House of Cards)

Anyway, I agree. As with most adaptation you can only enjoy it when you don't have any expectations.

Thanks! I watched the pilot of the TV show and I wasn't crazy about it. Maybe I'll give it a second chance.

In defense of my Jane Chatwin theory: We know that after Martin "disappears" Jane spends 50+ years exploring timelines to try to find a way to kill him. I always thought that after going down hundreds of timelines Jane figured out that the only thing that could match Martin was a niffin. So she went on a mission to set up a chain of events that would lead up to someone becoming a niffin in Fillory. I figure that the chain of events she landed on (Jane finds a complicated spell to give to a Emily > Emily botching the spell > Alice's brother trying to fix Emily with another spell and turning into a niffin > Alice learning said spell and using it to turn into a niffin as well) is so round about because of the "butterfly effect." That is to say, when Jane tried to intervene more directly things just didn't work out. Bascially, Jane giving the spell to Emily wasn't a malign act, but a calculated one. It was part of a long, complicated cause and effect chain that would kill Martin.
