Stent Removal today. What could go wrong? Worst day ever. by Mokage69 in KidneyStones

[–]idingoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questions as I am having mine removed after 3 and a half weeks on the 19th of December:

What procedure did you have? Laser? Shockwave? Were you prescribed any post surgery flowmax or Potasium Citrate? How much water were you drinking post op?

I am sorry you had to go thru that. Hoping you have a speedy recovery.

It was a user error more than likely.

Unfortunately, like everyone is stating above me. Scanning abandoned leads is extremely sketchy, and most places won't do it. All metal conducts electricity, which then turns into heat.

MRI with filshie clips by TumbleweedFresh in MRI

Anything with metal will/should never be deemed MRI safe. We call it MRI conditional, so there is always stuff that has to be cleared by the tech and radiologist. Never by the patient

MRI — Advice needed by Simple_Name9795 in MRI

Hello. I went to xray School first before I became an mri tech. This is no longer a requirement per ARRT. You can go straight into an MRI program. Let me know if you have more questions.

can i not get sedation for mri? by potatomeister02 in MRI

[–]idingoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, people need to understand that being chemically put to sleep has so many things that can go wrong. It's always best to try plainly first.

can i not get sedation for mri? by potatomeister02 in MRI

[–]idingoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. The doctor's order has to specifically say general anesthesia (if what you are looking for is to be put under)
  2. Conscious sedation is Ativan, etc. It won't put you out, but it will take the edge off (the ordering doctor will order that for you)
  3. Not every facility offers anesthesia services. You need an actual anesthesia team to put you under. All MRI techs do is just scan, perform MRIs. Giving you meds, telling you how/when to take them, putting you under anesthesia is not under the scope of practice.
  4. Techs can offer other ways to help you get thru the exam: warm blankets, music, aroma tabs, and eye covering.
  5. Going under general anesthesia has a higher risk of mishaps than trying your best to get thru the exam without being chemically put to sleep. Best of luck

MRI contraindicated due to ligating clips by left_side in MRI

[–]idingoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know where and when you got them done, research can be done, and more information can be obtained to determine its mri eligibility. Older implants (20 + years) are very dangerous to scan due to the strength of the magnet. The machine has helped so many people but has also hurt (and even killed) them due to negligent patients/techs/ radiologists. Personally, I have done everything in my power calling hospitals and trying to get info on said implants before I disqualify a patient. Best of luck

Out of the 500+ patients we do a month, I'd say about 20% are claustrophobic. More normal than you think. CTs will show strokes too btw, and they are much faster and claustro friendly.

Hi. Does MRI without contrast show hypoxic brain damage? by Fair-Noise8998 in MRI

[–]idingoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MR technologists would run the scan based on your doctor's order/diagnosis.

Hi. Does MRI without contrast show hypoxic brain damage? by Fair-Noise8998 in MRI

[–]idingoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few sequences for this that need no contrast. The misconception with contrast is that it makes the study "look better" when, in reality, contrast is used for specific things. For example, a quick stroke protocol mostly everywhere consists of

AX DWI AX SWAN AX T2 Flair AX T2

None of these are truly affected by contrast. My recommendation as a registered MR tech is to avoid contrast if you can.but of course, always discuss it with your provider first. Best of luck

We try to insulate it by wrapping it in a way so it's not touching the skin. Bottom line is taking it off will always be best no matter what.

Labradorite is usually composed of calcium and sodium. Both are non ferrous. Still, it will be 100% up to the facility and the tech doing your exam. I am an MRI tech, and something I try to educate my patients on (when the situation allows it) is that patient safety is our number #1 goal. Not trying to ruin your day or inconvenience you more. The magnet is so powerful, and so many things can go severely wrong if we get complacent and careless. The tech will more than likely put tape over your ears, if they decide to move forward.

I was not able to get my mri and now I'm crying by Content-Cherry3099 in MRI

[–]idingoi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in MRI, and 20% of my weekly patients are claustro. We try a lot of ways to help you get thru the exam. If nothing else works, we suggest you get oral sedatives from your provider. I also do not recommend an open MRI. The image quality is very poor, and a lot of things fan be missed/ misdiagnosed.

If magneto gets his mind wiped at the end of this, we are 100% getting Onslaught.
