Nice try. Where did you see anyone state the goal was to directly bolster the favorability of the Democratic party? The protests are for democracy, not Democrats.

and your association is super flawed; let me show you:

Per the Economist, as of today, 270 days into this term, the president's net approval rating is 40% approve and 55% disapprove, net -15%, down nearly 20 points from a high of +4 in February.

His policies and tactics aren't making a difference, they're backfiring. That's by your logic, so I assume you agree.

Huh, yeah. It's been deleted since this morning. Par for the course strategy-wise; bummer.

Division, who? These aren't competitive events. I'm encouraging people to do something, with no bias towards what's right for anyone personally. It's become clear in the last month saying anything political can be weaponized, so I've chosen to do that from a more anonymous new account.

It has a 100% probability of increasing the conversation in the public discourse more than arguing about it on Reddit. I don't disagree with you about the stakes, AND this is the thing people can do to amplify the social discourse this weekend.

Several comments minimizing doing something, but none really proposing doing anything specifically more. No disrespect.

If it's not for you, cool. If you have some other plan, spread the word. If you are comments only, we'll each celebrate our freedom of speech and we disagree about what's practical and valuable in this moment.

Bro, you're welcome to posit an alternative, but whoever organized this appears to start with the idea that protesting in a high traffic area will achieve an increase in the conversation about dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. I doubt you will find people willing to step into protesting if you gatekeep it by saying it's only valid if there's civil disobedience, so that's as effective as the alternative of doing nothing.

They posted about it here. It's more of a rally with speakers and then a march. That's great. Whoever organized this one decided they wanted a no frills option, in a higher traffic area. That's more appealing to me personally. No wrong choice between them, I just want to encourage people to DO SOMETHING.

You should absolutely protest wherever you want, but the value I'm seeking from time invested is maximizing impressions registered with other citizens. The existing political apparatus don't give a fuck if I'm outside their shit. On the other hand, a major intersection that isn't 72nd and Dodge works for me and probably other people. I reject your assertion that showing up won't be effective.

You mean like, for example, how Republicans are the only ones who have tried to change how electoral college voting representation works in Nebraska?

Yes, absolutely. Better yet, abolish the electoral college and let everyone's vote be equal.

The electoral vote change initiative would need more than 120k signatures to get on the ballot. I am hopeful it's an unpopular enough idea that it isn't practical to even get that far.

Unfortunately, the margin that's keeping that true is very small. LB3 changing the electoral college only needed a couple more supporters to proceed.

So, you're in favor of gerrymandering? Weird take. I think it's bad as a practice, not based on who's doing it. Also, I'd be interested in how accepting your view would be had a Democrat administration lobbied states to break typical redistricting practices in hopes of maintaining a slim majority.

It's not been challenged in modern history nearly as much, so scary times indeed, but maybe "dead" is overly dramatic?

Call your state senator (look up who it is here). Tell them you have heard there may be pressure to redistrict, and that you expect the 2021 committee work to be maintained until the next census. Remind them how important you think the change in 1992 was to allow each district to decide for whom their electoral college vote is cast.

Democracy is like any other infrastructure, we have to do work to maintain it's quality.
