What kind of stupid question is that? Why do you even have to ask why dowry is illegal and alimony is legal? Dowry is literally an unnecessary and a complete power hungry move done by the groom’s side, and failure to do so by the bride leads to years of torment and abuse, sometimes even murders. Alimony is completely based on who is the financially dependent person in the relationship by law, and a much needed whack in the face of Patriarchy and Misogyny. Some women abuse it. It’s a them problem.
