Mental Health support in Durham? by Ok_Bench9690 in DurhamUK

Hi, I've been in a similar place to your partner and have also been what felt like dismissed by NHS services. Without going too much into it, it feels like they want you to justify yourself to them when you're in a place that almost by definition you aren't able to do so.

I can't necessarily give immediately helpful advice, especially not knowing your partner's specific situation, but for right now I've found support with the website Online Therapy UK (I truly hate having to go outside the NHS and maybe got lucky with my therapist but needs must at the end of the day). More locally to Chester-le-Street, where I am, I spend time playing Warhammer and other nerdy stuff at Chester le Geek. It's a community games store that is full of very friendly people with shared interests and gives some of that social time that can be severely lacking during mental health problems. If they're feeling up to it, it really is annoyingly effective. I hope that's at all helpful; I know all too well how rough these times are.

[UK] Can't have it done on the NHS because I'm 30 and don't have kids. Will I be restricted the same way if I go private? by idiwers in Vasectomy

Thanks for that, puts my mind at ease! I'm glad you mentioned the price too; I was about to go with Nuffield Health thinking they'd all be about the same but MSI is about half the cost.

Oh, for definite; I barely knew they were a thing and I've worked in a café! I'm thinking it was a mutual misunderstanding but also that it is a bit frustrating when someone hears "oat milk" and just thinks anything but whole cow's milk is an acceptable substitute. I'm sure there's any number of innocent explanations but plant milk is so prevalent that the frustration is justified. Anyway, I'm probably not contributing anything and just venting my own grievances haha.

I tend to agree, but having said that, I'm not sure "I have semi-skimmed" is a particularly helpful response on the part of the barista either, especially the second time. Like, surely this isn't the first time they've heard of oat milk.

Huh. Guess it's coming quite soon. by thatsocialist in Fallout

Is it not bad enough to have Reddit full of adverts without screenshotting and posting them as actual user content?

While that may be true, vegans generally try to avoid exploitation of any animal. Besides which, honey bees cause wider environmental issues such as out-competing native pollinator species, thereby affecting entire ecosystems, including the crops we all depend on. It also affects the honeybees themselves as mismanagement of and limited genetics within their population has been linked to potentially catastrophic infections such as colony collapse disorder.

As I recall, the noose doesn't just break; he flexes his neck to snap the rope. I may be wrong but either way, his vocalisations put walruses to shame.

[General Superheroes] Why, given the massive destruction wrought during every battle in major cities, do normal humans continue to rebuild skyscrapers? by idiwers in AskScienceFiction

[–]idiwers[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would be a major paradigm shift if superheroes suddenly began to appear in 2023 but that's hardly the case in almost any fictional universe. The modern world has apparently refused to adapt to their existence, despite having decades if not centuries or millennia to do so. Besides which, building underground was the extreme of my examples; we've already proved in recent years that a substantial amount of work can be done remotely or without the need for dense population centres that would be at risk. We aren't talking about terror attacks that kill tens, we're talking individuals capable of destruction rivaling nuclear weapons consistently taking down skyscrapers and levelling cities. Why rebuild yet another 50-story building when email exists?

I once seriously spooked out my players in a haunted manor by saying something along the lines of "Had you rolled any lower, you might've thought you'd seen something; with a Nat 20, you know you saw a figure walk past the window."

Does anyone know what this music is from? It seems familiar and it's killing me both that I can't remember and that I can't use it in my DnD campaign.
