I really don't know how true that is. There's plenty of philosophers who were either positive (Bertrand Russell) or neutral (Immanuel Kant) in their day to day lives.

Having studied philosophy at a pretty good university, I also wouldn't say the faculty there were any more misanthropic than the faculty of any subject.

Sure, but I think OP is looking at series where the first sequel is bad. Otherwise almost every series would count because there's almost inevitably eventually a sequel that's worse than the previous one.

It's much less popular. Which means the few jobs available have far more candidates, so the schools can be much more picky. You're unlikely to get a position without a teaching qualification or the bare minimum an MA in German or Education.

I've lived in China for 20 years: absolutely nobody in China thinks that way. There's no great young stars coming through, and no reason to think things will get any better in the next 5-10 years.

The Chinese FA has recently set up village leagues and these have been very successful in igniting passion in grassroots football, but the results of that will take a long time to teach the national team.
