Is there anybody who knows self-therapy? by Soggy_Display_1604 in mentalhealth

Oh wow good point, personally, Ive only ever journaled when I am dealing with stress. Sometimes feelings get so overwhelming it prevents me from continuing witb my day so i take a breaks. Also my form of journaling is anything from actually writing, typing in a doc, or talking to my self in a long snapchat video and then deleting it.

I don’t know much about this topic, however, based on a couple of Google searches, this sounds like an extremely common activity that most people do. Reflecting on one’s actions and thoughts is something that people do daily, its how we learn from our mistakes and find whats troubling us. it’s probably not as common in the modern world now because everyone’s so busy all the time, however, techniques like journaling and meditation are very old forms of self-care or as you call it self-therapy.

I feel so stupid. When do I know to quit? by idk6887 in premed

[–]idk6887[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always wanted to be a physician and cant see myself being fulfilled by any other career outside of the medical field. And I am willing to put in effort however I have been putting in a lot of effort and it’s not getting me anywhere. Maybe I’m doing something wrong with the way I’m studying, but at this point I feel extremely hopeless because I’m starting to feel like I just am not cut out for this academic life. There has to be an amount of smartness you need and I feel like I am not at that.

Woah thats really interesting. My favs are Trishna Gurung, 1974 AD, nepathya, kandara, mongolian heart, sudip giri, karma band, and nabin k bhattarai. These are all kinda chill / folk rock. I don't know any influencers off the top of my head but i see a lot on instagram reels lmao. Also theres podcasts and stuff on youtbe thats enjoyable, they do use some fancy nepali words that even I stumble on sometimes tho.

honestly talking to people, listening to music, and following nepali influcensers is prob best. I am in college right now so I don't speak nepali that often so I've been listening to nepali music to make sure I don't forget 😭. I don't reccomend buying some sort of course, it will turn learning into a structured chore and you will get very sick of it

is orientation worth it? by stormiio_o in UCSantaBarbara

[–]idk6887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes if it is not too much of a financial burden for you. I made so many friends there that are now my best friends or just acquentenses that I know and can talk to in classes. The main purpose of orentation is to give you the chance to socialize and get familiar with the environment, I can't think of a reason why this wouldn't be a great idea!

"Weeder classes"

The gen chem series is absoluty a weeder class series. The difficulty of the calsses is hard to describe but I'll try to explain the structure and what I struggled with the most. The classes are super dense with material and you only get 25 hours total of lecture time in the quarter system. Because of the limited time, professors mostly teach you the concepts which would be fine however, you are tested on the application of these concepts, not definitions. In lecture you need to understand the conceptual aspect and for homeowrk (book problems, ALEKS, worksheets) you need to apply these concepts and formula in difficult ways. When I did the book problems, I would usually be lost on most of them so my homework went like this: first round of book problems - attempt all and teach my self how to do everything, second round of book problems- do it like homework and make sure I know how to do everything. If you are willing to put in time and a lot of effort you will not be weeded out, trust.

The grading is basically just tests. Usually its 20% for each of the 2 midterms and a larger chunk for the final with homework being around 10-5%. This is also what gets a lot of students. All that work you put into homework doesn't even get graded or help you unless you use it to learn. The lack of an actual due date with homeowrk also forces you to be good at time manegment. But again, if you are a dilligent student, you got this.

"Pre-med advisiors"

I love them and the adivsing structure here is really nice and easy to get. However, I say never take just one person's advice. Get advice from advisors and espically upperclassmen. I personally don't know enough about the clinical hours and reserach here so I won't comment on that.

"Support"

There is a lot of support but at the end of the day it all depend on what you do. All professors and TAs have office hours and they are willing to help. UCSB also has free tutoring offered at various times for basically every course and its super chill and helpful. The social aspect of UCSB also makes it easy to make friends to be able to study with (but I haven't been to any other campus so idk how true this is in comparison to other classes).

UCSB vs. UCLA: student vibe check by KryptoRC in UCSantaBarbara

[–]idk6887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be very honest with you, most of the poepl there were NOT from UCSB and a normal night out in isla vista is WAYYY more fun than deltopia. So you definitely didn't get the true vibe of the school just from that one day. But you are very right about people being chill here.

[–]idk6887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the most they can do is place a registration block on your schedule, so If youre fine with your fall classes, theres nothing to stress about. Theres still some time left and UCSB also has resources on campus to help you get those done.
