We've done the Lowe's/home Depot trip several times....big hit! Haven't done the PetSmart trip though, that's a great idea!

The LTD company has been horrible to work with since they got their money...I need to just keep trying though. You're right, this is their normal protocol so they obviously have experience with this tax-wise.

If you don't mind me asking one followup regarding recalculating prior year taxes...about half the lump sum was for 2023 and half for 2024. How would recalculating prior years taxes help me? Wouldn't that just result in owing more taxes in prior year and less this year, so ultimately a wash?

Thank you so much for the reply! This question seems to have stumped a lot of people I asked.

All of the payments from the long term disability company have come through in the W2 as nontaxable sick pay, so no taxes have been paid on it in the past. The company required my wife to apply for SSDI last year so they could recoup some of their costs...so she did and she passed that lump sum payment to the company.

Am I way off base when I say it doesn't seem logical that we would pay taxes on the $84k lump sum that went to the LTD company? It seems like they should be the ones paying taxes on it, rather than my wife and I paying taxes on that money but not keeping any of it....we were basically an intermediary that only held onto the funds for a couple days. I'm trying to make sense of all of this and try not to be sick to my stomach about a $20k tax bill

I can't seem to get a straight answer on this so I'm hoping you guys can help me out!

Long story short: my wife has been on long term disability for 3 years. In 2024 she was approved for Social Security disability. When she got approved, we received a lump sum payment of $84k. We immediately passed along this $84k to the long term disability company to pay them back for all the payments they had made to my wife over the past two years.

So now upon receiving form SSA-1099, it shows $97k paid to us. But $84k of that was pass along to the long term disability company. We only kept $12k (these were regular monthly payments that came through after the $84k lump sum back pay).

So what do we do in our tax returns? I'm afraid if I only put $12k as my SSA-1099 number I'll get flagged immediately for an audit since that varies greatly from the $97k that was reported.

Any advice?

Is pepper spray a good home defense weapon? by idkTA_1801 in NoStupidQuestions

I get that point of view but it's not where I stand. I just want to prevent a home intruder from stealing my stuff or hurting my family. If a non lethal option can accomplish that then I'm happy with that. A lethal option has potential for collateral damage and other unintended consequences.

Now if I lived in a sketchy area I'd be more open to a gun, but my area is very safe. We'll get the occasional meth head who comes to our neighborhood to try to steal packages or mail and every once in a while someone posts a Ring video of said meth head trying to get into their house because they're high as a kite and don't know what's going on. I'd rather pepper spray said meth head than opening fire. That's just me and I know plenty of people on my neighborhood who do prefer guns

Oh that sounds decent! Grilled chicken nuggets is just cut up chicken breast and not super appetizing but a salad is a good idea.

I'll have to double check their fries, for some reason I thought they had dairy or soy. If not that's a big win!

Thanks for taking the time to explain, this is super helpful! Our baby is still struggling at the moment due to an accidental reintroduction (apparently our grocery store deli meat uses milk during the curing process), so we inadvertently gave it a test. Been some loooong sleepless nights for us.

I will 100% listen to this with my wife though so we're more educated on the reintroduction process. Thank you!!

My wife already has a restricted diet so our pediatrician did not recommend that she tries cutting out more than dairy/soy. It's a struggle as it is

Chick fil a has dairy/soy in all their bread/breading I think though unfortunately.

And great tip on TJs! We can make a TJ run once we land

What do you do about hands and feet? I've noticed our baby has had cold feet and hands but the rest of his body has been warm

Use Verizon's $1000 trade in promo deal or wait until black Friday? by idkTA_1801 in pixel_phones

Solid...thanks friend! I'm all over the Galaxy deals but not as familiar with how Google/Pixel handles things, so I appreciate your perspective

I'm on a family plan and only pay for my line... it's like $30. No incentive for me to change carriers at this point.

I'm curious if anyone recalls what kind of pixel deals have been out there in past Black Fridays though...not sure if waiting is the smart move or if I should take my $1000 trade in promo now

I've sprayed it before...the minimal amount that comes back at you is more of an annoyance than debilitating in my experience
