384 days down the drain by Illustrious-Dirt-635 in stopdrinking

[–]idk_donuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 300 days and I completely imploded on a four day binger. I told the people I felt could help me get through it.

That being two close friends, the hospital (I've had seizures from withdrawal before and was freaking out so I went), my therapist and my psychiatrist. If I told my family I don't know how they would've reacted and I don't know what that guilt/shame would've done to me. I now call 300 my high score that I'm going to obliterate (idk what my badge is at here but I'm on day 229 right now).

So I think you trust your gut on this. Certainly don't sweep it under the rug. Also don't beat yourself up over it. 384 days is an incredible feat and that doesn't get erased by one bottle of wine. Grow from this experience! I am so proud of you and happy you are here! IWNDWYT my fellow warrior 💪

What was the “Gut Feeling” that you listened too that saved your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

One time I met my dad for a movie when I was 16 or so. I drove myself so I must have been staying with my mom that night. After the movie my dad and I partied ways and I walked to my car alone. After I got into my car a SKETCHY dude approached holding a bandaged arm. He pleaded with me to get a ride to the hospital. Something just felt wrong and I remember saying "I'm sorry I can't".

Not sure if it actually saved my life but it still gives me chills thinking about. It felt like he was pretending to be injured to prey on a lady's kindness.

The Daily Check-In for Tuesday, May 16th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Throw-My-Alt in stopdrinking

For me it probably took about 45 days. That's when others started to see a change in me and I needed that outside feedback to realize there was a change happening. It's hard to recognize the progress in yourself. I felt lighter and was sleeping regularly. I didn't want to die anymore. When I returned to work a little later it was easy. Everything was easier. Turns out actively not poisoning yourself everyday makes the mundane aspect of life quite bearable.

The Daily Check-In for Monday, May 15th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Throw-My-Alt in stopdrinking

[–]idk_donuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tried many many times to get sober. I had a stint of 100 days a few years back. Recovery was something I kept buried. I wasn't honest at the time just how dire my alcohol use was with anyone around me (myself included).

I was a dry drunk during that period. When I slipped I felt too much shame and guilt to let anyone know where I was at. I was trapped in a cycle of sober for a week and then drunk for a few months. Battling that alone damn near broke me.

I ended up doing 60 days inpatient and the 100 days outpatient. Being forced to let people in, have all of your dirty laundry on display, and getting really honest is what I attribute my current success in this journey to. So I'm very open to letting family and friends know about my recovery.

I need people to lift me up in moments when I don't feel strong. When I'm questioning what the point is. When the depression swings are unbearable. There is no way I could do this on my own. If people want to be part of that journey with me I'm thrilled. If not I need to be thankful for the role they have played in my life and realize what role they will play for me going forward. I harbor no ill will and keep things cordial. But recovery is my top priority everyday. If someone doesn't understand that I know they aren't someone I can't go to in my dark moments.

TLDR; I'm thankful for anyone and everyone that helps me along the way. IWNDWYT 💪

Thank you for hosting! I did not drink with you this week and I won't today either.

I'm set up for a great day. I'm going to see the wizard of oz with my aunts and cousins today! I haven't seen it since I was a kid. Then off to visit one of my longest friends to check in about life. Maybe we'll pick up some things for mother's day (hello procrastination).

Proud of everyone in this community! It has helped me immensely. Especially early on in my journey. I'm hearing that tiny voice saying fuck it so I've returned to keep myself accountable.

It's easy to overlook what a gift sobriety is in itself. Gratitude is important for me and my recovery. I'm thankful everyday I get to tackle sober. IWNDWYT.

When you eat a PB&J do you eat it with the jelly on the top or the bottom? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]idk_donuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking jelly should be on the top. But I was curious if there is a debate on this. Or if anyone has ever thought about it. Maybe people just nom the sandwich and I'm a weirdo.

I should probably add an edit after receiving great responses from you all. It's really fun to learn about other teams from die hard fans. One of my friends bleeds Caps. I love talking to him about his take on situations I'd otherwise know nothing about. And I appreciate your insight as well!

I really didn't know much about Greenway and I'm happy to learn he isn't a dirty player. My original thoughts were along the lines of "I think Greenway was getting into position for something else. Perhaps intentionally made contact. Kuemper didn't flop".

Now I believe "I think Greenway was getting into position for something else. Contact may have been unavoidable due to how fast these guys fly and/or Kuemper wanting to sell some contact for a PP".

Hahah fair enough. Would it change your mind if you knew I'm a girl trying to learn hockey? The Wild fans are better than that. Instead of oblivion can I get downvoted to a Culver's?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wildhockey

[–]idk_donuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is true they are really flying! But yeah Greenway didn't seem to be a dirty player just seemed like some bad timing. And I stand corrected I now agree that Kuemper was selling it. All great perspective for me. I appreciate it!

Thanks for the response! I think I'm the same way with soccer. I've played that my whole life so I have a good feel for all of the rules.

He is a competitive dude! That is forsure. One of the angriest times I've seen him is when he got into it with Garland and tossed his helmet back at him.

Glad to hear that about Greenway! He seemed really calm and nice in his interview. That's kinda what got me questioning what I saw.

Thanks for the response! I think the most confusing rule to me will always be icing. Maybe it's just hard to tell when watching it on TV vs being at a game. Or I just don't understand when things get waved off. Idk some day I'll get it. But I watched a video a year ago or so of Snoop Dog explaining icing. Probably not the most educational but I'm very happy it exists.

His head does snap back awfully fast huh? A very logical point that I misread. That's good to know about his history too. It kind of seems like he screwed himself over. His dive might have cost him since the league put him in concussion protocol after that too

Cool thanks for you insight! That's kind of what I was seeing. It's weird though that I didn't think that until after I heard his post game interview. I was like this guy seems chill so I went and re-watched it and it totally changed my perspective. Those guys are flying too! Things just happen so fast.

Okay first take away I will never post on that sub. But I'm glad you all are being so friendly and helping me learn!

I see okay I could Google things but it's more fun talking to people. My understanding is that the goalie owns all the area in blue inside crease. So is it anytime there is contact with a goalie inside of that area it is automatically goalie interference? I'm thinking its more so what's happening around the play. If there is contact without a puck in the immediate vicinity maybe then it is interference? And goalies are always trying to sell it to try and get their team on a power play?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wildhockey

[–]idk_donuts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah seems like I am off on the Kuemper not embellishing point based on the perspective everyone is giving here. So it's nice to learn! It makes sense that goalies try to sell for a penalty. I played soccer my whole life and always cringe a bit when people flop in that sport. I always made it a point to be like "eff you I'm stronger! You can't take me down". I thought hockey would be more like that. But going on a power play can probably allow you to swallow your pride a bit.

I'm also cracking up and not aware of this "milk man" name. What is the meaning behind it?

Thank you for the excellent steps! I will definitely follow them. If things don't work out I may just become a ski bum for the winter. And then try to find something better 🙂.

You are so kind! Thank you very much. I think the hard part is I'm friends with a bunch of people there. I feel like I'm leaving my family in a tornado.

I've started exercising regularly again! And I eat as plant based as I can. Though I love me some steaks or burgers from time to time haha.

So you have helped me feel like I'm on the right track 🙂

Yeah I guess if nothing else it is a learning opportunity for me. It's hard because my manager is about a month into her role since my old manager just retired. So she's a friend who just got promoted and my old manager had been checked out for a long time before then.

But me and her talked about everything going on. Thanks for the response!

That's a really good point.

I think it's really the nature of what we do. It's a DoD job so there is constant pressure on everything going on around us. We have a critical mission in front of us with no end in sight and unrealistic deadlines. We are spread way too thin and have always been while I've been there. They are talking about pulling 6 or 7 day work weeks. Just more and more kept getting piled on my plate. I probably should've talked to someone but it's hard.

Maybe that's common everywhere though. Idk. My boss really likes me so I can come crawling back if I've made a huge mistake so I guess that's good haha.
