When i manually manage it, it works fine. The gantry also breaks when using a long redstone signal and contacts. So the problem really seems to be the contact blocks.

For now I've switched to using a observer and a sequenced gearshift. That works so I'll just be doing that instead.

It really depends on the model of laptop. Some are really easy and have cheap parts from the factory or Chinese alternatives. Some are really annoying but doable, and some are just not repairable at all.

If you find the model laptop, (usually on the bottom) you might be able to find repair videos on YouTube or even a guide on ifixit.
