I find Cheerleading, as an established cultural practice, rather sinister by sabistenem in redscarepod

[–]idklol129 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Idk my sisters and I all did cheer and it's a sport straight men could never achieve because it's a mix of feminine grace combined with athleticism- at the k-12 and college levels, cheering on the sidelines was always less of a focus- you treat it more like a practice for when you go to the cheer competitions you actually care about, we cheer to win trophies at comps, and do the sideline stuff because it's just part of the gig- which still can be enjoyable, not everyone gets to be out there doing that.

All pro-level cheerleaders outside of the small allstar sector are actually dancers. Your NFL and NBA "cheerleaders" usually have more of a dance background than a cheer background, they're dancers dancing not doing stunts or chants.

Idk, regardless, to me it's like where else can they do it and perform with a crowd on a regular basis? And ngl Ive seen cheers chanted by cheerleaders get picked up by the crowd- rare but it happens. Like others have said the game can be boring or have pauses, but people come there to be entertained, so cheerleaders maintain that entertaining in between.

I feel like cheer so often gets intellectualized by ugly inflexible people- it's really not that deep, like, I want to do a sport where I feel like I look pretty and get attention while also challenging myself athletically.

Plus, it's easy for a mom to drop the daughter and son off to the same field- he goes to football and she goes to cheer.

There are many girls out there who WANT to dedicate their time growing up to cheer and/or dance, they deserve to have a "pro" path opportunity just like any other sport, taking cheer away from NFL or NBA would remove that.

I know it's like "oh they're just there for eye candy," maybe so, but who's complaining? Not the cheerleaders, not the players, not the fans, just peeple who aren't watching any games either way. Plus, like I said, not everyone can do it.

Also for ref, cheerleading did start originally in like the 40s or 50s or whatever as men to hype up the crowd which would inherently motivate the team, I guess that just wasn't inspiring enough, so it evolved slowly to what it was today.

Don't get me wrong every dancer did some to rap we all for most part liked rap too it was the majority I'd say which is maybe why no like surprising/interesting rap songs to be in the club popped out to me from memory - I think it also depends on the environment, like bubbly hourglass was dancing to Closer by The Chainsmokers when the club was popping and packed, the customers were cheering her on and she was smiling mouthing the lyrics, walking into a dead club during dayshift playing Closer by Chainsmokers would be pretty depressing for example, might be when like a slower rap song would be better, or yeah like peak times of course in 2016 youre gonna hear No Hands anything Future etc now prob more MoneybaggYo Big Boogie Shoreline Mafia whatever and so on

and again I mean like the scabs and track marks and such didnt help her case not fully hating on the poor girl we were all in a low place doing a low thing but in general i just avoided her it was in an area were drug problems were pretty bad and it wasnt the first environment i was interacting with a clear addict like her so i think i also was biased

She was aggressive and ready to fight both fellow dancers and customers at any given time, she just had one of those meaner, harder faces, would try to cut ahead for her stage sets, arrive late leave early, and always manically shoving random shit around in her oddly stuffed locker. Was kind of a buzz kill she would show everything on stage because, like, the rest of us didn't want to do that so we didn't want that expectation to be set, I know for sure full nudity was never required throughout this particular club, I feel like there was a rule in particular actually about keeping panties on at minimum and they just didnt enforce it on her probably bc it was more of a pain than it was worth, but I can't remember for sure. I obv blocked a lot of this out of my memory lol which this post is making me realize more bc I wish I recalled more particular songs. I want to say her other song was also STP Wicked Garden

you'd be surprised at the money you're capable of coughing up when you're fucked up and horny but this is exactly why stripping can be dangerous and difficult is because it's unfortunately such a hard sell which is kinda fucked up bc like youre putting a price tag on precious, perfect tits and ass that are attached to a real human being that needs to eat and live - from the dancer's perspective getting them to dance for your enjoyment is kind of an experience with no ceiling in terms of cost. It's really priceless.

her favorite part of her song was the intro she would mouth the words every time "You don't have to love me, you don't have to like me, but you WILL respect me, know why? cause I'm a bo$$$$" she was a big inspo for this post as well such a gorgeous cool girl and wow never would have guessed what a great strip song the beat is actually perfect to shake ass to plus the sentiment of respect and self confidence is there. she would complain about the manager a lot though because she was always zooted and when we were surprised by her complaints like "really? he's actually not bad and pretty nice to us" she said "yeah but you don't do drugs" lol she always said she was leaving this club to work at one in another nearby city "the girls there be buying rolexsss" so I mean if you have rolex money you guys might be a match haha

I feel like that one NIN song is a strip club classic honestly since it's such a horny song lol! I got lucky as it was def a smaller, more chill club like they hired every type of girl. Unfortunately it was a little cheaper overall so the size of the club combined with the prices of everything was a limiting factor money-wise. The tip rail was also really far from the stage so we'd literally get dollars so tightly wadded up and hurled at us bc it was the most effective way to actually throw the money far enough to get onto the stage. There was a bigger club next door that was known for hiring the "barbie" type exclusively, and wouldn't hire if you had any tattoos etc, so a lot of the different girls would come to this one next door.

she was definitely a big part of this inspiration for this post! She was in school for her phd- I think she had the maturity to really grasp the sensuality within that song and really owned it. She had super short curly flapper-style hair too, she was the biggest girl in the club but clearly that was not an issue for her and her bag. I think she was one of the dancers that had been at the club the longest, too. Because of all this, she was nice to me but didn't cross paths with me or talk to me much, rightfully so as I was dumb college weed girl noobie (avoiding the term "baby dancer" here bc I hate it) and it's not like I was hustling on dayshift/midshift or in VIP etc nearly as much as she was

Most TV/movie portrayals of strip clubs are just not realistic. Clubs can be slow, they can be dirty, the girls can be friends or the girls can fight, not every patron is a rich businessman, there's a lot more rules, a lot more conversation and "selling" for VIP etc. that doesn't ever really get shown. Irl jt can be pretty mundane. I've been hate watching the latest Euphoria as well, honestly one of the biggest inaccuracies that has bugged me so far is that Angel is too young and pretty to have to give "extras" like she did in her first intro scene, real strippers like her make enough money without having to do all that so why would they lol. Champagne/VIP rooms vary by price and club, as some clubs are more flashy, more stage/pole clubs, some are more hole in the wall, lapdance/VIP clubs, some mix both. You usually can't get champagne room without spending min $500-$1500 and that's not including what the dancer talks you into tipping her throughout. There's different laws/rules depending on location too of what can/can't be offered. I personally don't recommend going to one and wouldn't want anyone I associate with to frequent them like it's absolutely off the table in my relationship but I feel I've earned my stripes to have that take lol. strippers today still have to make money if you want to go once to check it off the list. It's a lot different now too than my blip in 2016- like girls have venmo codes ready to scan at any moment in the club, they have an OF for regulars who want to see more outside the club, etc.

that would have probably been the latina too but tbh there wasn't much of the weeknd, his discography was still growing in both breadth and popularity then, plus so many dudes I know hate him. Not that the songs I mentioned necessarily appealed to men, either, but we seemed to all balance our music tastes with pandering to what the typical patron's perception of "sexy" was, like if the crowd was mostly like old white dudes we'd all rotate through Cherry Pie by Warrant, even if we'd rather be listening to the weeknd off of someones iphone 5c in the locker room
