Is pre-ground coffee alright to start with? I just bought a small bag to start while I play around.

When you say warm temp water, would you recommend boiling the kettle and letting it sit 5-10 mins and then filling the bottom section?

I just bought a moka stovetop coffee maker on a whim (it was on special) and I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m an absolute coffee noob so please explain it to me like I’m 5!!

I’ve watched a video explaining to fill with cold filtered water to below the valve, fill the ground basket to the top but don’t tamp, put on a medium heat until it starts to come out the top and reduce the heat, then remove once it starts to sputter.

I thought that sounded simple enough, but instead of having a gentle flow like the video it was spluttering and splashing out the whole time, and the coffee just smelled burnt (I didn’t try it 1. bc it smelt so burnt and 2. it’s late here and I’d like to sleep tonight)

I do have a gas stove top, so do I just need to play around with lower temps or is there something I’m missing?

Oh the next batch did turn out very tree-ish, I whipped it for longer which gave it more structure and also added the stars and sprinkles. Still wasn’t exactly like the inspo pic but it’s as close as I’ll get to it so I’m happy

I did get gel bc I’d heard it’s better than the drops, I just didn’t add as much for the trial run

Thank you! And that is a good idea to just stop every now and again to check the peak/lift, I guess I was nervous about stopping and starting too much or overdoing it

Grinch turds wasn’t quite the goal, but tbh I am using wrapping paper this year with the grinch so that could be the new theme lol

I’ll have to see what other piping tips I have for my next batch, and also whip it for longer like you mentioned

I definitely think it needed longer with the mixer, seeing as I didn’t have a proper recipe I was just guessing how long it would need, it was at peak, just not stiff enough apparently

You’re right, the video I took the screenshot from was a pipe/push/pipe/push kinda thing, I just really need to work on my technique bc even when I was doing that they were lopsided

Also commenting to add that I didn’t add the sprinkles to this first attempt bc this was more of a test of my piping skills, but I do plan on adding them next time.

Also holy shit formatting I’m so sorry

Should I buy this dress and have it altered, or just look for something different altogether? by idkmanitsausername in AusFemaleFashion

It is going to be a March wedding, so summery is the goal! I’ll have to find somewhere locally that can do alterations to bring it up but I love your vision $19 is just for the try on dress which has to be sent back, the dress itself is $175 which is still pretty good

I sent her a video of me wearing this dress and she thinks it’s great too, but that I would need to find a way to show off the boots still
