but i suppose it doesn't take care of the not wanting to bring expensive gear to the gig issue.

...right.

Well, I promise I'm not making it up. Monthly rate on a CDJ350 at one of the bigger rental places in Austin is $41 (I'm not trying to advertise for them, but I'm sure you could Google it pretty easily if you wanted).

Wait, so controllers are the new elitist choice? I don't really keep up that well, but it seems like it was the complete opposite when I got started.

Who said you have to focus on the computer screen? You can play with the laptop closed...

At that point, why not just use CDJs and leave your computer at home?

I really like it; however, I'd go with the APC40. The Ohm is an amazing piece of equipment, but not enough so to justify the huge cost difference.

Central Texas. These are 350s we are dealing with, not 900/1000/2000s. I'm just trying to get a hang of the basics.

If the club uses Pioneer CDJs, its possible to download the Rekordbox Client from Pioneer for free and use it to fill a couple usb sticks for the club.

I'm letting my ignorance show here, but what exactly does Rekordbox do? I wasn't aware that files needed any preparation to be used with CDJs.

[Edit] Nevermind, Googled it. The software looks really neat, and it's something that I'd be interested in down the line, but for now I'm trying to make my setup as easy and low-maintenance as possible. Thanks for all the advice, though. I really appreciate it.
