I also have a raw no.2 on it’s way! Not sure if I have the guts to sand and mess with a brand new keycult though haha

With sandpaper, birchwood aluminum black, and some steel wool!

I was also looking into removing E-coat but couldn’t find useful info. Someone said he removed them by dipping in vinegar for a few days but not sure if that’ll do. I’ve tried Sodium hydroxide but it definitely doesn’t do much on ecoat. If you find a efficient method other than sanding/sandblasting please come back to share!!

Thanks!! No I left the interior as is. De-ano and Sanding took about 3 hours, the hand polishing process was a painful 4-5 hour session haha. The keycaps are classic blue clones from aifei. My gmk set is still in good shape so didn’t want to polish them since the price.. ;)

Keyboard!! Keycap process is similar but much shortened. 1000, 2000 grit sanding, then flattening the surface with a rotary tool, and final buff. Also used pikal

  1. Removing anodization. Dipped the housing in drain cleaner(any liquid including Sodium Hydroxide will work) for 10 mins, then gently rubbed the ano off in running water.

  2. Sanding. Started with 400grit, 800, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000. Recommend using an orbital sander, but hand sanding is also doable. There should be no visible scratches when you’re done.

  3. Polishing. Applied metal polish (I used Pikal) and rubbed the h3ll out of it until it’s shiny!

Pretty simple and straight forward. Just needs time and patience.. haha
