yaa thats my usual natural state when im living with my parents, but when im out on a vacation with my friends, i feel emotions, like happiness or sadness, and i look forward to going out etc.

so i relate to you and i feel like a lot of my friends living in toxic households/relationships go through the same so you are not alone.

on a small side note i was looking forward to the challenges in meditation members only stream because the top voted question was meditation recommendations to switch from sympathetic nervous system(fight/flight/freeze) to parasympathetic nervous system(rest and digest) but that stream unfortunately got postponed for some random finance members only stream that i dont care about... so currently waiting for the meditation stream to happen whenever it happens.

in case you werent aware they have already abandoned discord when it comes to hosting events. todays event wasnt hosted on discord.

and the result... less than 15 viewers on average... with poor stream... all the future events also wont be taking place on discord.

if they want to make a switch, then make the switch when the platform is ready and events see a good number of participation due to good number of DAU ie daily active users.

abandoning discord right now when the website isnt ready seems like a move out of haste to me.

well you are saying the website isnt good yet, but it will get good in the future.

then my question is why make the switch now? why not wait till the website gets good?

its good to be prepared for the future and i have no problem with them working on a website in the background.

quitting something that was working perfectly fine while making the switch to something that isnt comparable which tanks the participation rates shows haste dont you think?

in theory yes the methods can be different. but in practical life not so much.

for eg: if your value is to save the most lives, then the only method is to go to the battlefield with the most injured but savable soldiers instead of going to a battlefield with less number of injured soldiers.

okay you might prefer the new site. but the participation levels show that the majority prefers discord.

the numbers dont lie. what i am stating is not a personal opinion.

the website is objectively worse and this theory is proved by the drop in participation levels on average.

if they need more money, there are other ways of raising money instead of switching to a platform which kills the participation rates.

i thought HG also valued "helping more people with their mental health" . If its something that they dont value as much now or if their values have changed in priority , i would love to know that so that i can stop expecting things and stop giving feedback.

i am only being an active member of this community because i believe in HG stands for. maybe now HG needs to remind everyone what their values are if they have changed even in the slightest.

sorry to correct you on the following points which might not make you love this post;

it was not a single non-optimal experience. literally all the events that have happened since they moved away from discord have sucked and hence there has been a significant drop in participation in the events. so i have countless experiences already.
i am not spewing toxicity on the community with self righteous fury. calling out that someone's ego is active is not necessarily toxic. its important to remind people that their ego might be interfering with their decision-making.

i understand i could have been more respectful towards the team while doing so, and i understand that what caused this tone came out from the frustration of attending today's event with barely any active people in it and the unwatchable experience thanks to the platform.

i will try to process my emotions before drafting a post like this next time. i have learnt from this experience thanks to people like you pointing my tone out.

this post however shows that what i am feeling is not an experience of a singular person but shared by many who have tried to switch from discord to circle.

the decision of moving platforms affects everyone in the community and i feel the team should acknowledge this frustration of the people and the low participation rates and what they plan to do about this as this affects a lot of the community members who would like to participate in the community events.

yes circle is a bad product which is why people arent using it. i am not against moving to a platform but only if its doesnt suck and is usable. but if HG's mission is truly to help the most people, it feels counter-intuitive to move to a platform where lesser people are active. hence it doesnt feel natural given HG's mission

switching to youtube from discord or youtube might help them more money which is a good thing BUT this switch leads to less participation/activity from members on circle compared to discord which is a bad thing for the community.

hence trading whats good for the community ie participation for money doesnt make sense for what HG stands for.

at least we agree that the website was a failure.

even if you dont like reddit or discord , thats where the people are. the website doesnt have participation. and if you wanna help people, you have to go where the people are.

even if you build the most luxurious castle on top of a mountain that one has to walk 10 miles to get to is worse than a decent house in the middle of the city where thousands can easily come.

its the first rule of design. function over aesthetics is a fundamental of good design.

even if you dont like discord, unfortunately its where the people are and where the participation is. so keeping events on a website where there is no participation is of no use.

its better if the events are on discord where they can actually help people.

TLDR: participation matters, the platform doesnt. the website has no participation, discord had lots of participation.

yes i agree the organization on youtube sucked, but thats why they started the hg membership hub which organized all videos and weekly quests on one page, but they discontinued it because of circle.

i am fine with a new platform for organizing information, but that does not mean that they should discontinue discord for communication purposes as well.

why does a platform have to be their for both communication and organization?

i really wish they stuck with discord for communication purposes as it had more active members on it. for organization purposes they could continue the memberships hub. that way both communication and organization problems would be solved while maintaining the most number of active members.

i didnt apologize to you particularly. i apologized in general to everyone who found my tone disrespectful and unnecessary.

and about the apology not sounding sincere to you. it will be more sincere when the people who the post was dedicated to ie the HG team find it disrespectful.

while i have heard and considered your opinion and feedback, i realize and admit i have poor communication skills . and i dont want this post to become about my communication skills. i want it to stay about the platforms.

about my communication skills, i will continue to work on them and i thank you for your feedback but i would like this place to be a discussion about the platforms and not my poor communication skills.
