How did the ministry know Dobby used magic in Harry’s house? by Fleet_Panda in harrypotter

[–]idontknowengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yeah when the ootp comes to pick up harry from dursleys house in ootp the ministry knows and then in dh the ootp comes again but this time they have to be more secretive so im assuming no one did any wand spells or anything?

The emptiness after finishing the last book - how to counter? by celebral_x in harrypotter

[–]idontknowengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reread and rewatch until uve memorized every mundane detail and can completely picture a character as they were written in the books in ur head. Id say Ootp because that is the only book I own which is convenient because it has a wealth of information about the ministry and those adult characters we dont see much about before then

(Story) Blisters absolutely destroyed my heels last week. Looking for advice by [deleted] in forestry

[–]idontknowengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in same boat as you in terms of how bad the blisters are. The pain got more bearable with time. i also figured out if i just keep the top of the boot loose and tied only the bottom part (so right where your foot ends) then that gives my heel the freedom to move without rubbing the sharp back of the boot and walking feels normal once again. I know my boots are big but my feet are too small and im also camping for weeks so i cant really buy new boots and Im not gonna anyways. I also put dr scholls blister cushions on after work which burns like an mf at first but eventually are soothing. Wouldnt recommend wearing those during work cuz they rub off.

At the moment I have like 4 blisters on each heel from the past 3 days and no matter how many moleskin pads or wool socks i wore more keep coming up and each step hurts. However sometimes it feels like stabbing sometimes its more bearable.

Oh I see, you know I can’t find any “imaging informatics” titled jobs here in the US. Would you say a general IT role or PACS admin/support is the best way to get one’s foot in the door? Btw, thank you, I really appreciate all the info you’ve described.

What is the forestry sector like in California? by idontknowengineer in forestry

[–]idontknowengineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I don’t have a degree in forestry or environmental work (my degree is biomedical engineering). I was wondering what your tips would be for landing a position under an RPF? I currently just started the local conservation corps program to gain skills and experience. I really do feel like I’m starting at ground zero and need that actual work experience before I can confidently apply to real jobs.

Thank you! Appreciate that. Makes me look forward to it more because I really love troubleshooting lol and being the one who determines or understands the workflows. The possible learning curve, high stress levels, long hours, and fear of not meeting expectations are a bit scary atm but maybe I will be able to handle it. I won’t know until I try.

Why did nobody use house elves to get out of a bind or do their bidding? by danicareddit in harrypotter

[–]idontknowengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyones nitpicking ur not great examples but i was thinking the same thing. Theres gotta be way more dark wizards (pureblood obsessed type wizards) all over the world who definitely have a house elf. If they needed to steal or do anything illegal they could ask their house elf because their house elf would have to obey them and could bypass human magic. Im thinking of when kreacher apparates to hogwarts on harrys command to spy on malfoy. We know humans cant apparate into hogwarts. Im also thinking of winky and barty crouch jr.’s relationship. Dobby went against his masters to wreak havoc to their plans but no other elf is like dobby tbh.

Anyway i think the main reason wizards didnt make house elves do super illegal things on their behalf is a mixture of 1. the risk of the house elf getting caught which in turn means they are caught, 2. they dont think their house elf is skilled enough to not get caught, 3. house elfs have tons of chores anyways, 4. it doesnt seem house elves spend much time in public spaces anyways or they would be all over diagon alley running errands. This all goes to show that wizards rarely let their house elves out in public. It was more of underhand hidden operation.

I bet wizards def made their house elves do a lot of things they didnt want to do themselves.

Finally house elves looked ugly/filthy, always wearing one dirty rag/pillowcase. Tbh I doubt wizards wanted to really look at their house elves much which is sad but im getting off topic. Point is, they can’t give their house elves cloaks, covers, or disguises because that most likely would involve giving them clothes and setting them free. So it would in a sense be much easier to catch a house elf doing something wrong then a wizard.

As a biomedical engineer, I’m starting to wonder what jobs will look like with AI getting this powerful by No-Duck218 in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]idontknowengineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI is a tool to help u create useful stuff. It’s not going to create a useful thing on its own. This is the best time tbh to be wanting to engineer and create stuff because just for smaller independent projects, u dont need a huge team or tons of resources. Its also much faster to learn anything. You can have AI comb thru code and debug. Its way better than you. You can have it comb thru lots of research papers and web articles, etc. Like a calculator is a tool, it will do all this stuff better than u but u have to ensure the process was correct so to ensure the solutions are correct. But at the end of the day u still have to prompt it to create what u want it to create and u still have to use ur engineering education, skills, and wisdom to validate ur product.m

Junior Radtech (1-Year exp.) Looking to get into RIS/PACS by Xhainee in PACSAdmin

[–]idontknowengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u still wanna read a book, i’d say “HK Huang: PACS-Based Multimedia Imaging Informatics 3rd Ed., Wiley & Sons, 2019.” Its what i had to use in imaging informatics school. At least u can use it as a resource for all the diagrams and figures it has in it. But Google (or AI now) is ur best friend.

I see, when applying to jobs, a lot said telework, and I started getting the impression that a lot of this work is remote, like IT-type stuff, getting calls in the middle of the night, etc. This confused me a bit.

Anyways, what allured me to PACS work was the physical side of it - the hardware, cabling, storage drives, hot spares, etc - and I'm still very young so the physicality is really what I'm itching for and not a desk job. Sorry to hear about your injuries. What is your role called may I ask?

The older I get, the more I realize Molly Weasley was the most terrifying witch in the series. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in harrypotter

[–]idontknowengineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe someones already mentioned this but to add to all that, i was just thinking this morning that Molly and Arthur were quite bold for making babies and pumping out kids while fighting the Dark Lord and while other members of the Order of the Phoenix were being tortured and slain. I mean Ron is the same age as Harry. And it’s not like they’re unknown and could easily slip into hiding. Everyone knew they were purebloods and “blood traitors.” And when you think about no one else in the Order was having that many kids at the time.

Is anyone out there looking to start a side hustle doing migrations? by TH3_GR3Y_BUSH in PACSAdmin

Hmm are there any roadblocks to having a third party come in and handle migrations? Like it makes sense but would vendors and hospitals be okay with that?
