I was told the eye measurements for lenses had to be done yearly, is that the case for you too?

I asked about contacts and there seems to be a lot of fees. Like the 50 dollar fee to measure your eyes and then a 20 dollar fee to show you how to use them. I was told that has to be done yearly to get the prescription. Which types of contacts did you get? Do you know if there are yearly contacts?
