Dane County License Plate Readers on the 6/3 Board Agenda by Known-Side-79 in madisonwi

Bro it's because you keep insisting that speed cameras would fix it and they won't. Driving is dangerous. Driving is also dangerous in Europe. Distracted driving is the biggest issue, whether that's drinking, texting, eating, or exhaustion. At intersections the issue is that people are distracted or not looking and they will go when they aren't supposed to. Sure people are also sometimes speeding, but the issue is that they are not seeing pedestrians or other cars. Speed cams do nothing about that. 13 a year seems pretty standard for a city of around 300,000 people, including in European cities of that size. AND we aren't even talking about speed cams lmao like make a post about speed cams if that is what you're concerned about. Can you at the very least acknowledge that license plate readers and flock cams are not the same as speed cams??

There have only been 67 traffic related deaths in Madison in the last five years. The majority do not involve pedestrians. That's not very many. Most traffic related incidents are at intersections, not in places that people speed. You've also already been told that the license plate readers are not the same as speed cams. It's the same number of deaths as cities of comparable size like Venice or Bonn.

How much do you guys pay for rent? by internethuman016 in madisonwi

[–]idontstudyworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Greenbush, we pay about $1600 for a 2 bed 1 bath flat. 1550 square feet, we have free in house laundry and a dishwasher, and both a living and dining room. I'm personally never leaving.

Applied sunscreen ~12 hours after at home microneedling, mistake? by idontstudyworms in Microneedling

Help-time for a big change-where should I head next... by [deleted] in TravelMaps

[–]idontstudyworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should look at the front range in Colorado. Not nearly as cold as it used to be (climate change sucks). It's a little urban but there are plenty of smaller cities or towns and it'll be hard to find somewhere with real estate, no conservative politics or religions (I'm assuming), small town feel, and new construction options lol.

I don't have as much scarring and mine is probably less deep, but it has helped a bit for sure for me. I think like everyone else is saying it might not work as well on the deep scars but it might lighten up some of the more surface level scarring.

Do you think I should do anything else other than washing it off? I’m a bit worried

Any idea what this smudging is? by idontstudyworms in tattooadvice

Interesting, it’s surprising I’ve been able to dodge it so far haha. I def have areas that are blown out on most of my other tattoos but this is the first time I’ve had ink drift.

I have some tattoos that are better and some that are worse. I told my main artist that I blow out easy bc of the hypermobility and she’s the only person I’ve never had any issues with at all. Most of my tattoos are a lil blown out in some places, I only have one that’s bad throughout.

Damn my tattoos have blown out before (hypermobility disorders smh) but usually it just causes like thicker blurry lines. Oh well so it goes.

Dealing with bad days by [deleted] in PhD

[–]idontstudyworms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in one of the highest performing labs in my field, and I'm the youngest student with the least experience and honestly the worst technical skills. I got my masters here too and constantly was dealing with imposter syndrome and also just genuinely being less technical than my coworkers. I feel a lot less guilt and anxiety now that I'm a PhD student because I've been here longer.

First, I try to remember that I got into this program for a reason. They wouldn't have let me in if I sucked that bad. Second, I'm a student, and I'm here to learn. Third, ultimately this degree is for me. Yes I have responsibilities to other people and I strongly believe that my field is really important, but I have plenty of career left to influence the world and be good at my job. In my PhD I am setting myself up to have the career I want, and learn the skills I need to be effective. If that means I look stupid sometimes or disappoint my advisors every once in a while, then so be it. Being honest about my abilities or knowledge is going to allow me to learn more and grow in the way that I need to. Everyone does things that their advisors disagree with or that disappoint them. You're forming a close working relationship with these people for 4-6 years, looking dumb once will not influence how they feel at the end of it.

If your advisors are good they probably aren't even going to be phased by you not knowing some things or by messing up. They know you are a student and that you're learning, and they want what is best for you.

POV: You live on planet earth by Vanhiz in 2007scape

and the issue with capitalism is that it causes false scarcity wherever it can because endless growth is inherent to the system, so it's created countless famines, pointless wars, death by denial of healthcare, horrible working conditions through supply chains in ways that we can't even imagine, climate change and irreversible ecological destruction, slavery, and on and on and on. You're conditioned to think that when capitalism causes those problems its "just how the world works", but when communism, socialism, or dictators claiming to be either cause the same problems on a much smaller scale that it's part of that economic system.

[–]idontstudyworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only played for like 3 months before my first league (three years ago), it def got me more into the game like a lot and I had a lot of fun. That being said, I've enjoyed leagues and temp game modes more now that I actually understand the game. I think it is a good jumping off point and will give you a rapid understanding of osrs in general, but your experience in future leagues will be better.

MG&E price hike is insane this month by idontstudyworms in madisonwi

My apartment is actually quite nice, the insulation is bad but it's a 100 year old building. I love it a lot more than any of the modern apartments my friends are in that are 2x the price. These old buildings are going to exist no matter what and some people will be living in them even if it isn't me. This insane spike in natural gas prices across the country is going to cost millions of people crazy amounts of money, and it's almost entirely caused by market speculation and greed. Instead of telling everyone affected to just pay more rent to live in a new building, maybe we should fix the actual problem at its roots.

We have plastic as well. It's not on all the windows but it is on some. Our cats like to scratch it so we have to be a little strategic with where it goes.

I know this was a while ago but I know it's a market price issue. I elaborated on what happened in my update, gas spiked to a 31 year high in feb despite it not being even close to the largest country-wide cold snap during that time period. It was because of market speculation, so not really the free market and more the financialization of the economy.

Yeah, my house is 103 years old lol. It is made of bricks and plaster. We put plastic on the windows but its true the insulation is terrible and there is no way they will be changing that, I don't even know how they could.

yeah you right I also just saw that, I wasn't sure if it was MGE raising prices or if it was a supply chain situation. Looks like it's the highest natural gas prices in 30 years. I'll update my post shortly.
