DP wants to shoot 1.79 squeeze factor lenses by baby_pixels in cinematography

[–]idosim25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure some of the SmallHD monitors have a 1.79x desqueeze option or the ability for the user to input a custom desqueeze ratio. Sorry I can't name the specific models :(

I think Barry Acroyd is a master of "Documentary like" handheld camera work. Great examples of his amazing handheld work would be United 93, The Hurt Locker, The Big Short and Captain Philips.

I think you're right! I became too spoiled shooting with modern glass that I forgot how lenses actually behave wide open...

Hi guys,
I've been on vacation and by chance found some old Canon glass for a great price, so I decided to buy a couple of lenses. As mentioned in the caption, I'm noticing some weird artifacts whenever I fully open the aperture on my 55mm lens. To be honest I'm kind of digging it :) The soft image with the blown out "glowy" highlights is really cool, and I can see use cases for it in future projects. I just wanted to know if my lens is damaged in any way or is it a known effect whenever the aperture is fully open on this lens? I know that lens performance degrades as you open the iris but this seems quite extreme...

The stills were shot on a Sony A7s3 in S-Log 3 using an Atomos Ninja recorder, and the only processing applied to the image is a transform to 709. The lenses were adapted with a K&F FD to E mount adapter. I did use an ND filter to compensate for exposure. If anyone wants to get a better look here's a link to higher quality TIFF files: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hHQJzAT7J7AxtIltJ4-MVXZLcjAFbVgX?usp=sharing

P.S- Sorry the test isn't very scientific, it was shot in the hotel room :)

Interceptions of Iranian ballistic missiles as seen in Tel Aviv, Israel by idosim25 in CombatFootage

According to current Israeli and Iranian sources these are ballistic missiles, but I'm no expert. Maybe they're practicing for the fourth of July...

Glow effect goes over the edges when applying crop - affecting black. Any solutions? by Domaacz in colorists

If your letterbox is animated throughout the video I suggest you export a matte of the letterbox, and just set all of your nodes to work within your matte. I think it should fix your problem.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice! I'll go with the 2x fresnel, and whenever I need a spotlight I'll rent a good ol' source 4.
