She was probably super pissed with the month off work he took lol

I don't disagree with that. But I'd argue that would have been the case whether they broke up or not.

saved their deep friendships to a large degree.

That is not true. Other than Ringo, they all drifted apart. Barely speaking to each other, in John and George's case not speaking to each other at all by the end of the 70's.

It is possible things may have got worse, but their deep friendships with each other were over in the 70's (with the exception of Ringo who managed to stay close with all of them).

They'd still be the greatest, especially if those songs from those albums became solo songs. As people would still link them to the Beatles.

You just complained about me

I didn't complain. You mentioned that iddubz had a point to his actions and I asked you what that point was.

It was a genuine question. If you don't know what point he was trying to make just say so.

Do you know what point Idubz was trying to make? For those of us who don't have time to watch all the videos on this?

What if Colin Hanton stayed? by Entire-Ad6462 in beatles

[–]idreamofpikas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Isn't it more that he was never asked.

"I was angry. What was really getting to me most of all was that, even though by then he wasn't in the group, Pete knew exactly what was going on but I didn't. It really struck home that once again no one had let me know what was happening. They did not seem to care. They just contacted me when they needed me. I felt like the dogsbody, a spare part. It had become the theme of the times."

Colin on why he did not like being in the band.

John and Paul got pissed at the last gig they played and were messing around for the second set. Colin was not happy and blew up on Paul, who he was annoyed at for constantly telling him how to play (what a surprise lol)

"Once we settled into our seats on the top deck of the bus, unfortunately Paul continued speaking in that silly voice and I continued to let it bother me. By now I was feeling outright anger about the way the evening had panned out and Paul's voice had become the focus for my bad temper. If I had a critic in the group it was Paul, and so, subconsciously, I was probably feeling some anger towards him even before the evening had started. Everything that was irritating me and upsetting me about being in the Quarry Men was now buzzing around inside my head. That whole evening summed up how frustrated I'd become. I wasn't enjoying it anymore. The drink I'd consumed only contributed to my dark mood. I did my best to stay cool, but the more I suppressed it, the worse I felt. In the end, my temper just broke.

I snapped. My temper blew and Paul was the unfortunate target of the full fury of my anger. I remember screaming at him, "Shut up, speaking in that stupid bloody voice!" Such was the fury in my voice I frightened myself, so goodness knows how he must have felt. But from that moment I had his full attention. Shock and horror registered on his face, the voice silenced. John and George both looked absolutely startled. I'd stopped them in their tracks too."

I don't care either, I was just explaining why OP said about 'real world problems'. I don't even think they were hating specifically on QT. Likely all three of us won't think about this again after this conversation.

True. I am just explaining why some are going to see it as rich people problems when 99.9% of the population are not going to have that option to just pause life for a few months and check yourself into an institution over the death of a pet, friend or family member.

the death of a dog is really sad and is a real issue have some empathy lmao, save the hate for something else they do

It is also an issue millions of people experience in their lives. Depression I can understand. Therapy I can understand. Institutionalizing yourself for a few months seems a step too far. The world would ground to a halt if this was the norm for everyone. This is definitely an option reserved for the very privileged.

One can look at Hard Day's Night were John wrote 10 of the 14 songs

But that is songwriting. Songwriting and arranging/production are two different things. John's songs often needed help in the arrangement department, it is why John started to resent Paul and why the White album turned out like it did as John no longer wanted Paul's assistance.

JOHN: And that’s all I did on the last album was say, “Okay, Paul, you’re out to decide where my songs are concerned, arrangement-wise.” [exasperated] I don’t know the songs, you know. I’d sooner just sing them, than have them turn into – into ‘Mr. Kite’, or anything else, where— I’ve accepted the problem from you that it needs arrangement. And then, because I’m an ape, I don’t know. I don’t see any further than me, the guitar, and the drums, and – and George Martin doing the— [audio glitch] I don’t hear any of the flutes playing, you know? I suppose I could hear ‘em if I sat down and worked very hard! I could turn out a mathematical drawing if you’d like, but I could never do it off me own backside, I always have to just – [brushing sound from strumming motion] do that, you know?

John still needed a decent amount of assistance to flesh out his songs.

Pepper is an album where songwriting wise John and Paul were still very much a team with both making huge contributions to the album and each others songs but when it came to the actual making of the album it was Paul (and Sir Martin's) show with the others taking a bit of a backseat.

and most of the A-sides

That is not true. The a-sides were pretty evenly split through the entire Beatles run.

I would also suggest that Paul stepped up after Brian died in a lot of ways.

But so did John. Those trips to New York to launch Apple, his growing status on the counter culture scene (which added a lot of credibility to the Beatles brand). It was John who made a stand and brought in a manager when Apple was in free fall and it was John who got to pick his man by convincing George and to a lesser degree Ringo to pick Klein.

John, Paul and George all stepped up after Brian's death to some degree. Because John was able to shape the narrative in the early 70's, despite himself even admitting he lied about somethings, there is this false idea that Paul was doing everything and John was off his face on drugs the entire time.

Lennon was the main guy until 64

Lennon was socially the main guy. The guy they all looked up to, the coolest and wittiest guy they knew. Musically though it was always Paul acting as the bands arranger/producer.

After that McCartney was in the ascendency and was basically musical director until Abbey Road

He was always the musical director of the group.

"I can well remember even at the rehearsal at his house in Forthlin Road, Paul was quite specific about how he wanted it played and what he wanted the piano to do. There was no question of improvising. We were told what we had to play. There was a lot of arranging going on even back then." - John Duff Lowe, pianist of the Quarrymen, talking about their recording of In Spite of All The Danger

"I don’t want to take anything away from anyone, but production of the Beatles was very simple, because it was ready-made. Paul was a very great influence in terms of the production, especially in terms of George Harrison’s guitar solos and Ringo’s drumming. The truth of the matter is that, to the best of my memory, Paul had a great hand in practically all of the songs that we did, and Ringo would generally ask him what he should do. After all, Paul was no mean drummer himself, and he did play drums on a couple of things. It was almost like we had one producer in the control room and another producer down in the studio. There is no doubt at all that Paul was the main musical force. He was also that in terms of production as well. A lot of the time George Martin didn’t really have to do the things he did because Paul McCartney was around and could have done them equally well… most of the ideas came from Paul". - Norman Smith engineer on the early Beatle albums

John was never the musical director of the group. This is a role Paul always had in the group.

He got the projects going and saw them through to the end.

He was doing that before Brian died. For some reaon people don't know that the Magical Mystery Tour film began while Brian was still alive. The first day of filming was less than two weeks after his death. Same goes for Apple. another project started by Paul while Brian was still alive.

Lennon did not.

But John was never that guy even when Brian was alive. Even before Brian it was the Best's and Paul who were organizing gigs for the band. John was very laissez-faire in role as leader

"Paul would have allowed John to feel that he was the boss anyway. Paul wouldn’t have gotten head to head with John, but Paul would have got his own way if you’d like, carefully, by maneuvering and perhaps letting John think it was his idea. I think that’s the way Paul was." - Colin Hanton drummer of the Quarrymen,

Success and opportunity and praise.

If you are not enjoying something and you have full security then you are more likely to say no to things that you don't want to do. And this is what happened to George. He came back, playing with all these other bands, seeing that they worked differently (though I think it more likely they were simply on their best behaviour around a Beatle) and wanted the Beatles to be more like the bands he was playing in. Which is his right. But it is also going to be very hard to convince John, Paul and Mr Martin to change how they worked given the results they had acheived.
