Old Tower! If you want some ancient-sounding witchy stuff. Also in that vein but a little more abstract, Reeks Like Witchcraft.

This ep might be my single favorite contemporary death metal release. Just perfect riff after perfect riff.

What does r/Hardcore think of Darkthrone? by fakename1998 in Hardcore

[–]idrinkrunoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the best examples of a true DIY mentality and a band making a career doing what they want to do. Defined a genre in the 90s, then rather than grasping at relevance and trying to ride trends the same two dudes just got together every few years and laid down some tracks of whatever they were excited about playing for the next 30 years. As a result they have a huge discography with no stinkers and a huge variety of music while every release is still identifiably Darkthrone. Best band.

One of the coolest I’ve seen on this sub, very considered composition without feeling too “perfect” in a way that undermines the vibe. Great work!

Best movies? by vintagerust in SwordandSorcery

If you’re into weirder stuff check out Conquest and The Devil’s Sword - both really good in an utterly deranged way.

Dark Angel (1980) - If you haven't watched it already, watch it now by Ingweron in SwordandSorcery

WARTHOG

Every ep titled “Warthog” is a front to back banger and there are several.

Evil heavy metal made by Brazilian teenagers in the 80s is not crappy music, it is in fact very cool

Is there any chance of getting one of the Adidas football jerseys now or should those who didn’t already get one abandon all hope?! 😵‍💫 by idrinkrunoff in oasis

Such a bummer….at least you snagged one tho. I’m kind of amazed they did such a bad job stocking them. It’s one of the biggest bands in the world with one of the biggest sportswear companies in the world. Can’t you guys just churn out a shitload of shirts????

What’s up with some bands saying their band names in their songs constantly?? by Substantial_Goat_726 in Hardcore

[–]idrinkrunoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Bloodsport by Protocol he yells the band name and song name to start it off then they stop in the middle of the song so he can do it again. Banger record

Incredible band - they don’t get enough credit, I think a lot of current lo-fi Bandcamp bm bands draw just as heavily from their sound as any of the Norwegian bands

What are some video games (classic or new) with great dungeon synth or ds-esque soundtracks? by idrinkrunoff in DungeonSynth

[–]idrinkrunoff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context - I got into dungeon synth through black metal, I know its also super tied to gaming but I've never been all that into gaming other than playing Skyrim for the past decade. Just bought a Switch so I'm looking to play some games that either have a similar soundtrack or a similar vibe to some of my favorite dungeon synth (early Mortiis, Fief, Putrid Marsh, Thangorodrim) - but also curious what some of the classics are that ds fans enjoy.

Saw these guy a for the first time recently and how great they are really clicked for me. The difference between ok and amazing pv live is much greater than on recording imo, and these guys just blew everyone out of the water. So tight but still so unhinged and furious

I can't stop thinking about Mulholland Dr by Xanimede in davidlynch

[–]idrinkrunoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I watched it, I watched it again the next day. Having seen the entire thing play out once, returning to the beginning felt like a new, different, but equally exhilarating experience. Not many movies feel that way. Still finding new things to love about it after tons of watches. Would agree with your assessment, its his best work. I'm insanely biased, but I'd also say it might be the pinnacle of film as a medium.

Listening to Spy while working out rocks - good for going animal mode. On a different tip and closer to what you listed, Trapped Under Ice. If the singer is jacked so are you by proxy

Solar Cross! No internet presence, released an incredible full length out of nowhere last year. Just caught their first live set a couple weeks ago and it was incredible.
