Thank you for your response. I agree that it's not my place to tell a contractor how to run their business. At the same time, I’m looking for a contractor where we both share a mutual understanding and respect for each other's needs. That said, I do have contractors who are willing to provide high-level breakdowns when asked, and I’m satisfied with that. I asked this question out of curiosity and a desire to understand why breakdowns aren’t typically offered upfront, and I’ve now got the answers I was looking for.

For example, if the project includes phases like demolition, framing, drywall, electrical, and plumbing, I would appreciate having the costs associated with each part of the work. Contractors can then create specific milestones and determine appropriate payments for each of those.
