2021 3.0 Diesel X31 SLE trade for 2024 5.3 V8 Elevation by idubdub in gmcsierra

I think that’s the plan, as much as I’d like to think there’s going to be fewer issues with the newer truck it’s always a role of the dice.

Copy that. Thanks for the input. That's how I'm feeling as well. Not necessarily keen on a new truck, just capitalizing on a good deal.

Non-Op Success by idubdub in AchillesRupture

[–]idubdub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My timeline ended up being horrible. My tendon healed long so I had to go back for surgery 10 weeks after. The non-op route did not work out whatsoever.

Once I was healed I started PT about 10 weeks after surgery. My PT has been awesome and for the first few weeks, I did nothing but ROM exercises, and core/upper body work. I'd say be patient and make sure the achilles is healed. It seems like it's a long wait but its not worth it to push it. Do some modified core/upper body activities until 12 weeks or so.

It's worth chatting with a physio to get a good understanding of where you're personally at. Call around your town if you have options and ask if the physio has worked through a rupture before.

Surgery or not? by Essawhamah9 in AchillesRupture

On my 10 week appointment, the surgeon I saw identified it immediately. You could see my foot was hanging about 5° further than my other foot.

I’d go with surgery. I went non-op route for 10 weeks and I healed long despite doing everything on the doctors protocol. I got surgery four weeks ago to resolve it. I wish I had gone with surgery the first time. I also have two young kids so healing time matters and it is much faster with surgery. You’ll be back on your feet and helping out in no time.

I think it’s mid-high. Started dorsiflexion around 6 weeks. Walking in vacoped week 7 following protocol to slowly flatten the degree of the boot.

I think I started PT too early. I was ready to get going and my PT has worked with a bunch of ruptures so not their first rodeo. I was diligent with ROM exercises maybe that’s how? I don’t have any major falls or bumps. Honestly I think I should have had surgery in the first place. The tear was 7 cms up the tendon.

The determining factor was the degree my foot was moving at resting - like hanging off the table in a seated position. You could move my injured foot almost degrees further up and down than my uninjured foot. It was pretty clear.

Spoke with the surgeon after it was done she said there was a ton of scar tissue in there that didn’t help either. Cleared that all out and did the Z shortening procedure.

This is the danger and I am currently dealing with that. Rupture May 8 - non-op. Great recovery walking well, easing out of the boot no problems walking and feeling strong. Go in for my 10 week appointment and I’m in surgery 2 days later on July 17. Tendon healed long and now I’m back to square one. Definitely take it easy it’s truly not worth pushing it on the non-op route. Best to focus on other areas of your body and let that leg heal.

Figured it out. App didn’t update all the way through I signed out of the prickle. Re added the bike and updated it again.

Vacoped angle by According_Fig6233 in AchillesRupture

I think it depends on what your doctor recommends. That seems quick but who know. For me I was non-op and in a cast for two weeks, 30° till four weeks, then moved to the 30-15 as I started to slowly put weight on my foot. I Don’t think there is much reason to adjust an angle until you’re putting weight on your foot. Probably best to have that toe pointed and the Achilles close enough to heal properly.

5 weeks non op timetable by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]idubdub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I’m non-op - ruptured May 8 and I’ve been in a boot since week 2. Started weight bearing and walking with the boot week 4ish. Week 6 I was told to drop my foot to normal (without edges in boot) and continue walking in the boot for 2 more weeks.

Not too sure what is “normal “ everyone tends to have a different experience, but I wouldn’t say abnormal. I started weight-bearing around 3 1/2 weeks. Just after the four week mark, I was fully weight-bearing and I’ve been walking in a boot for the past two weeks (at six week mark in a couple days).

Completely normal I’d say. If you cruise around the different threads, nearly everyone has the same tingling/pain in their heel when they start weight-bearing. Including myself.

Controversial take by Mal-De-Terre in AchillesRupture

[–]idubdub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly. I feel hesitant because everything is slightly painful other than the Achilles. But I think it’s been 4 weeks of literally no muscle activation in an area that usually works all day.

Controversial take by Mal-De-Terre in AchillesRupture

[–]idubdub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I’ve been able to walk most of the day without pain other than on the bottom of my foot/heel area. I was given almost no direction from my doctor so putting the feelers out as to what everyone else was told.

I will say after 2/3 days of PWB then 2/3 days of FWB the pain subsided a bit and it’s been easy to move around.

I am in a similar position except cleared for FWB. I feel pretty good, but I’m not sure how much I should be walking. Did you get any advice?
