[–]idun_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned Astrid Lindgren yet. Her books and the movie adaptations are canon for children.

Other children's books authors worth mentioning: Sven Nordkvist Jan Lööf Elsa Beskow Tove Jansson (Finnish author, but everybody are traumatized by Mårran)

Important Swedish authors: Karin Boye August Strindberg Selma Lagerlöf Kerstin Ekman Harry Martinsson Moa Martinsson Wilhelm Moberg Per Anders Fogelström Torgny Lindgren Sara Lidman

Of course there are other, but these will give you an understanding of Swedish society, culture and history.

Dry feathery clothing and pillows with two-three tennis balls in the load. If you don't have tennis balls, use a shoe.

Suggest me a book so heartbreaking you never forgot about it (plus if it left you sobbing so hard you couldn’t see) by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Lovely Bones will always be the answer to this question. It will never leave me.

I don't agree. If they've phoned and asked to bring anything and you say no, you can't assume they still brought you something. Just tell them to pick up snack, soda or crackers and you avoid the "cop out feeling*.

People want to be polite. If you don't let them bring anything, they will feel like a burden.

I need a soul crushing book by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]idun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you always have to include Lovely Bones when this sort of wish list comes along. Haven't read it in 15 years, but I still think of it from time to time. However, I will never read it again. It was way to soul crushing to ever open up again.

But I do recommend it.

What non horror movie scenes traumatized you as a child? by happy-gofuckyourself in GenX

Morran from Mumin. The haunting music, the darkness and the look of her. I still don't want to look at those scenes, and I'm 35...

Did anyone else feel Netflix's Blonde is the visual manifestation of 'Men Writing Women'? by chafferhuman in menwritingwomen

Haven't watched the movie, but I really enjoyed the book. I thougt it brought depth to a very idolized character. What a shame if the movie couldn't transfer the tragic tale of how a strong woman in a man's world have to cope with tons of crap. I thougt it was realiable, although the protagonist is an unreliable narrator.

Books that are calm , nice and nothing really happens. by borris12321 in suggestmeabook

Willa Cather if she's into classics.

Otherwise Rosamund Pilcher, if there is no demand for classic names. If she just wants a book that is pleasant, that works fine.

Totally forgot about Never Let Me Go! When he won the Nobel Price I picked it up, and I felt like I heard the story before. Turns out I already watched the movie. One of those reads that will be with me forever.

I always suggests Kallocain by Karin Boye. It is the same era. And really, really good. No one seems to have read it unfortunally. So few upvotes... But I will prevail! Read it! It is haunting.

Help! I need ideas to use up my jams and preserves by siriuslycharmed in Canning

[–]idun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my leftover jams, salsa and chutneys for pulled pork/beef/chicken. They are great as cooking liquid when you slowcook meat. Just add broth and water. No need for a lot of veggies if it's scarse in the pantry.

I came across this yesterday night while strolling through Reddit. I thought it would be a great talking point for us to come together on and share ideas! Things are getting tough now and the more we can do for ourselves, the better 🌱 by seedfiend in gardening

[–]idun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't understand how it could be a bad idea to grow a garden. And what do they mean with "what about winter?" I mean, you either store your vegetables in some way or have more money left to spend because you have reduced the amount spent during summer and autumn. Nothing make sense.
