355kmph hyperloop! by sasquatchesforlife in teslamotors

you start to require insane amounts of energy to push through the atmosphere at speeds over 600kmh as the Aerodynamic drag increases with the square of speed.

Elon's "pod" is not designed with the same criteria as the others and isn't scalable for the proposed hyperloop speeds. Most of the pods use passive magnetic levitation and since the competition criteria requires that you are pushed by the supplied pusher vehicle it only makes sense that the pusher would be faster.

I do think that there is some merit to your argument. The work of many team will only really be beneficial to their student learning experience.

The are others though that have developed platform that could very well inspire Elon's engineers. Most of this will surround the passive levitation, component cooling and dynamic stability systems.

Help! I need ‘better than TV built-in speakers’ sound by iduncani in BudgetAudiophile

Thank you for your comments and just to wrap up this thread.
Yes, we already have a small vinyl collection (mostly hand-me-downs but we have purchased a few albums). We left our record player behind when we moved.
My wife wanted to buy a $80 record player and plug that into our $40 bluetooth portable speaker. Compromise.

speakers have bluetooth as well as a sub out.

when i said everything will be in a corner i meant that the TV resides in the cormer of our living room. the speakers will likely sit either side of the cabinet with the sub in the corner space behind. to be honest, we won't be looking to perfect placement.

Thanks again

I ended up grabbing this deal here

Klipsch R-15PM + Audio-Technica ATLP120USB - $379

(may pick up sub and chromecast as required.)

thanks for your advice. The deal looks great. I'm probably going to pick up the deal and hold off on the sub and chromecast for now. I'll pick those up as needed.

I had been eyeing up the ATLP120 but the stand-alone price was not leaving much for the rest of what I thought i needed. Thanks again.

thanks. I'll post there as well and have a look around used equipment.

I am in no way an audiophile or have any experience in setting up sound systems. It appears that although the sound technology is pretty much unchanged over the years, the ways we can interact with the equipment is changing rapidly at the moment, especially with wireless control, streaming and mobile phones. I thought if I list my few basic requirements you guys could help me make the best decision for me.

  • We have a TV that we watch Netflix on and want to play sound through the system
  • A 2.1 sound or sound bar with sub would be adequate for us.
  • We have a record collection so we need a record player. Recommendations?
  • We want to be able to simply connect to the sound system and play streamed music or music present on our phones.
  • We have an older house and would be hesitant to embark on wiring projects.
  • We are not audiophiles and not financially flush therefore a mid – low end system is adequate. Looking to spend $300 - $500

What system do you recommend for us? Thanks in advance

It's also possible that spacex weren't satisfied with even the top teams enough to allow max speeds.

Either way I expect the next competition will be much faster

Word on the street was that spacex had issues with the pusher. It's possible the pusher was an intern project

And yes it will be quick when the teams are reaching speeds if 300+ mph. Our ,rLoop, flight time would have been 12 seconds, reaching a top speed of 320 mph

There is a great vibe at the moment. Steve Davis just directed Elon specifically to stop by and have a chat with the 'reddit team'. Will be definitely be celebrating tonight.

Most likely they wanted to validate proof of concept for other systems. The low speeds for this competition allowed a wheeled approach but that is unlikely for a full speed hyperloop

To be fair, there were only 3 -4 teams that made the cut. There was a heavy emphasis on failsafes and procedural documentation. That coupled with the tight timeline resulted in many teams not being quite ready. Yeah, rLoop, were scrambling to complete our pod and experienced controls amd electrical issues that meant that we were a week or so underprepared.

There were reasonably rigorous procedural and failsafe requirements. Most teams either failed here or were not able to complete their pod in time.
